"Life as a judge clearly made UN envoy Richard Goldstone a poor judge. Rumors are that Goldstone only retracted his findings once Israeli President Shimon Peres agreed to give him a tour of Israel and a quiet share of a very successful felafel stand, which he chose over a share of an Israeli hi-tech arms manufacturer." ~ Yasha Harari

Apple is believed to have acquired Spotsetter, a “social search engine” for finding places to go, according to TechCrunch. Spotsetter quietly shut down its app last week with the following announcement: With fondest emotions, I’m announcing that we are closing down Spotsetter app. We still have big dreams for personalized search for places and look forward to seeing great progress in this area. Thank you everyone for your support over the past years! TechCrunch reported that members of the Spotsetter team that have joined Apple will help improve its Maps offering by adding a social layer to it. An Apple spokesperson…

Today Evernote updated its iPhone and iPad apps with enhanced business card note features and the separation of your business and personal notes. The updated app is available for download via the App Store. A new toggle lets you switch between your personal and business notes. That should squelch some of the messiness of having all your notes in one place. Here is what Evernote says is new with Notebooks: There’s a toggle that lets you switch between personal and Evernote Business Notebooks Notebook searches show sections for personal and Evernote Business Notebooks Icons indicate whether a notebook is shared with…

mailbox post
This post originally appeared on the Buffer blog. Where do email subscribers fall on your list of priorities? We’ve recently pushed email toward the top of our most valued sources, and it doesn’t seem like we’re alone in that. While social media might be the hot place to push your marketing efforts, there are many who choose to rely instead on building a valuable email list. And they couldn’t be happier. Here’s Michael Hyatt, speaking about his email list of 115,000: I have literally built a multi-million dollar business on the strength of my email list. Ninety percent of my…

Facebook’s Parse adds support for Apple’s new Swift programming language

On Monday, Apple released Swift, a new programming language for iOS and OS X. Today, still in the same workweek, Facebook’s Parse has added Swift support. This means developers building with Swift can take advantage of Parse’s features (storing data, managing users, sending push notifications, tracking analytics, and so on) long before Apple starts accepting apps in the fall. To start using the Parse framework in your Swift project follow these steps: Add a new file to your project, an Objective-C .m file. When prompted about creating a bridge header file, approve the request. Remove the unused .m file you…

app store
Apple CEO Tim Cook heralded this year’s WWDC event as the biggest ever, thanks to a slew of announcements and features for developers and consumers. One of the most interesting aspects of the event was the increased focus on iMessage. In response to the growth of messaging apps, iMessage is getting a big revamp in iOS 8. It will feature push-to-talk voice messages, a shortcut for quickly taking selfie images, support for group chats, and location sharing. In addition, all media is set to self-destruct by default unless the user explicitly saves it onto their device. These new features will make iMessage more like an app than just…
