Twitter restores ‘blasphemous’ content in Pakistan one month after blocking it

Twitter has unblocked dozens of accounts that it restricted in Pakistan, one month after it agreed to government requests on the grounds that the content was ‘blasphemous’. The company bore much criticism for the move last month, which was the first time it had restricted content in Pakistan. Many claimed the government requests were politically motivated — the EFF went so far as to suggest that, by agreeing to them, Twitter showed it is no longer “the free speech wing of the free speech party” that it claims to be. For its part, Twitter appeared to make the decision to avoid more serious government action, its service was blocked…

Uber is continuing its rollout across Asia after the private car booking service launched in Hong Kong today. The service is initially in a ‘testing’ mode, as is common with all Uber launches, and is priced at HK$2.00 per minute or HK$9.32 per kilometer with a base fair of HK$35.00. The launch follows a recent rollout in Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta, and it takes Uber to 25 cities across the Asia Pacific region. The company entered China in August last year — progressing in the country could be its toughest challenge yet. ➤ Uber Related: China’s top car booking app to rival Uber…

Asia Pacific-focused HotelQuickly now lets customers book rooms one day in advance

HotelQuickly, the Asia Pacific-focused last-minute hotel booking app which launched last year, is broadening its focus to allow users to book rooms the day before their check in. The app works with hotels in 12 different countries, in the same style as HotelTonight — offering hotels the chance to sell their unused inventories, and enabling customers to buy discounted stays. Previously, the window for booking a room ran from 08:00 AM to 04:00 AM the same day, but now bookings can be made the day before check-in. In addition, the re-designed app has added filters to sort hotels by price and third-party…

The event takes place in New York at Lincoln Center. Just last week, Adobe let loose a Photoshop Sneak Peek, which got plenty of attention. The keynote starts at 1:00 pm eastern time, where it’s expected that Adobe will make some major announcements about its Creative Cloud product line….

The two words that make most early adopters’ blood boil

USA
There are two words that strike fear into the heart of most* early adopters around the world: ‘US only.’ Yes, there’s nothing we hate more than to read about a cool new app or gadget only to discover that it’s only available in the USA. Seriously, it’s infuriating. *Since most people in the world aren’t in the US, it’s fair to assume that most early adopters are outside the US too. Take today’s launch of Slingshot, Facebook’s new app. Roberto from our team covered the launch from the US and I (sitting at home in the UK) decided to download…
