Twitter Goes Public On The New York Stock Exchange
This post was originally published on my personal blog I’ve been using Twitter for a number of years now – since late 2008 – so I’m well entrenched in using the network as part of my daily life. I love Twitter. It’s a great way to meet people, discuss common interests and things as they happen. It’s the new water-cooler, and it’s a great place to hang out. Over the years, I’ve forged some great friendships via Twitter and met people I would have no hope of just meeting on the street as a result. It’s a great tool for…

If you love Star Trek, you’ll love Pixel Trek, a recreation of the beloved TV series in adorable, playable pixel art. Pixel Trek is a small web-based game that allows you to explore the Spaceship Enterprise freely. The Pixel Trek website boasts that you can “explore areas and angles that were not shown on the tv show” and that many of the characters are in the game, even those that died off during the TV series. The game isn’t an officially sanctioned one, with the website pointing out that no rights were acquired to the show and that the developer just likes Star…

This post originally appeared on the Buffer blog. I spend my days writing content from my desktop computer for people who will read the content on their smartphones and tablets. Go figure. Mobile devices are fast becoming the preferred method of reading, sharing, and engaging with online content. It’s strange to think that the content we create on desktops and laptops will end up on dozens of different screen sizes before all is said and done. It’s a good lesson to keep in mind. When I share to social media, what will my sharing look like to the people who…

Clear Returns, a Glasgow-based company which specializes in returns software for retailers, has won the European Tech All Stars startup competition, besting a total of more than 400 entrants. The final leg of the multi-stage competition (which is a part of the European Commission’s Startup Europe initiative) saw 12 finalists take the stage at the Founders Forum in London across June 11 and 12. Although Clear Returns emerged victorious, it was chosen alongside two other finalists – Parx Plastics and Triggertrap – and all three received the same €20,000 worth of credits towards Google Cloud Platform services. TNW Editor-in-Chief Martin Bryant was one of the panel that whittled…

Corey McAveeney is a Culture Geek at Culture Amp, the creators of Murmur, a survey and analytics platform for measuring and improving your workplace. “Work hard play hard” is an often repeated motto among many startups, as is the popular “Get shit done.” I’m all for those who bring it to their startup culture, but what is the meaning behind these platitudes? Thankfully, “It is what it is” was short-lived and no one I know has tried to describe their startup culture as such. These oversimplified sayings are more about the effort founders, people ops folks, and others in leadership roles make to communicate…
