If you head over to Google Search and type in the name of a local business, followed by the keyword “phone,” you’ll now see a linked number at the top of the page. As Mayur Kamat explains on Google+, this shortcut lets you instantly call the company using Google Hangouts. It’s a small shortcut, but one that should appeal to devoted Google Voice users. Calls to businesses in the US and Canada are free, while dialling an international number will incur a small fee. Admittedly, this isn’t the most revolutionary feature, but it builds on the useful cards and Knowledge…

Google’s education arm has donated $100,000 towards a joint project between Code Club and Technology Will Save Us which allows children to build and programme their own games console for just £60, thereby teaching them early essential skills for a potential lifetime in technology. Announced today, the kits are already on sale but the funding from Google’s RISE program will allow 900 kids to get their hands on one, plus sessions with Code Club to assemble them, for free. There’s simple apps that don’t do a lot, but do what they do well. Then there’s Yo, as the FT points out, which takes minimalist concepts the extra mile. In a nutshell, ‘Yo’ sells itself as a single-button, “zero-character communication tool.” Rather than saying ‘Good Morning’ to your buddies, you simply ‘Yo’ them. That’s it. Available for Android and iOS, ‘Yo’ requires no email address, or no annoying signing-up process via Facebook – just choose your username, invite friends to join, and you can ‘Yo’ each other all day long by tapping a button.     A bit of a bonkers…

Samsung has launched a souped-up version of the Galaxy S5 in Korea, taking advantage of the country’s next-generation internet, a faster processor, and improvements to other parts of the device. Galaxy S5 LTE-A runs on Korea’s LTE-Advanced networks — which makes it theoretically capable of up to 225 Mbps data transfer – while its 5.1-inch display is QHD, boasting 2560 x 1440 pixels, an upgrade on the regular Galaxy S5′s 1920 x 1080 resolution. The phone has also had its pixel density bumped up to 576ppi, which surpasses that of LG’s G3, a device that has been heralded for sporting the highest quality screen on the…
