Charts
GoSquared, a real-time Web analytics company, has launched a revamped version of its platform geared around giving users quicker access to the most powerful and frequently used features. The move follows a complete retooling of the platform almost a year ago to focus more on visitor growth and engagement and today’s update is aiming to make GoSquared more valuable to an entire business, rather than just ‘the analytics guy’, the company’s CEO and co-founder James Gill told TNW. However, where most companies would throw new features at the perceived problem, GoSquared is focusing on what it already has first. “[The release] is all about making…

This time next year, every mobile messaging app will be exactly the same

FEAT
While the last 12 months will be remembered for many things, in the technological realm mobile messaging apps will likely feature prominently in most people’s memory banks. Of course, the surge in mobile messaging apps has been happening for a while already, and choice is certainly a good thing for those looking to consign SMS to the history books. But when we look back on 2014, it will be difficult to think of any word other than ‘convergence’ when it comes to mobile messaging. Just this week, Chinese giant Tencent took a leaf out of Snapchat’s book when it gave…

BREAKING NEWS: The BBC just made every app developer’s nightmare mistake with push notifications

It’s probably every developer’s worst nightmare, but if you work for the BBC, such mishaps tend to get seen by a lot more people. The British broadcaster has a breaking news feature within its mobile News app, and you probably received some interesting ‘Breaking News’ earlier if you have the app installed on Android or iOS. Apparently, ‘Push sucks’ and ‘Pull blows’, and there will be no nudity in the next episode of Game of Thrones. Interesting test of push notifications from @BBCNews just now #pushsuckspullblows pic.twitter.com/bsFj28wI8q — Julian March (@JulianMarch) June 25, 2014 As well as issuing a follow-up…

radioantenna
With 4G now becoming more ubiquitous in the UK (as well as around the world), early work is being done on the next next-generation data standard, currently being referred to as 5G. You’d be forgiven for thinking then, with all the noise around the subject, that 5G implementation could be just around the corner. Forgiven, but wrong. It’s still a long way off in the real world. And before we go any further, if you’d rather read this on one page then the option is available. Indeed, the UK’s national 4G networks are still only now pushing out into the farthest reaches of…

Video site Viddsee branches out from short films into Web series

Jun25

Singapore-based video site Viddsee has been focused on showcasing short films ever since its launch in February 2013. However, it is now branching out and venturing into Web series. Derek Tan, the co-founder of Viddsee, revealed that the company has seen an increasing demand for serial content on the Web. “A lot of this (in Asia) is also motivated by Chinese video platforms coming in with micro-cinema (short films) and TV programs now. In the US, we see Netflix creating House of Cards, and also YouTube’s drive towards playlists for Web series too,” he told TNW. The Web series feature is making its…
