Blackphone, the privacy-focused Android smartphone, begins shipping to pre-order customers

Blackphone, the privacy-focused Android smartphone unveiled back in January, is finally a real product. Collaborators Silent Circle, an encrypted communications firm and Geeksphone, a Spanish smartphone maker today announced that the first handsets have begun shopping to pre-orders customers. It’s been a long time coming. Pre-orders opened in February, during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and the first handsets were expected to ship in April. The handset itself sports a quad-core 2 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage and support for LTE networks. The components aren’t bleeding-edge, but bundled with the $629 asking price is a suite…

Over 8 million PC gamers were logged into Steam at the same time during the Summer Sale

PC gaming is far from dead. The latest figures from Steam, the digital storefront and gaming platform run by Valve, the prolific developer behind titles such as Half-Life 2, Portal and Left for Dead, soared past 8 million concurrent users over the weekend. To emphasize, that means over 8 million people – the same as Israel’s population – were logged in and using the service at the same time. The previous high recorded on Steam was 7.5 million concurrent users back in December. In short, an awful lot of people are playing games on their Windows, Mac or Linux PC….
