Android is well-known for the customization it enables, but what about creating your own live wallpaper from scratch? This is where Murtastic wants to step in and help. For the uninitiated, live wallpaper essentially provides animated and interactive backgrounds for your Android device, sidestepping ‘static’ for something a little morel lively. How Murtastic works From the main screen you can create a new live wallpaper, or edit an existing one you’ve already created. Once in, you’ll see eight self-explanatory options along the bottom – ‘Edit Text’, ‘Text Color’, ‘Text Size’, ‘Wall Color’, ‘Wall Image’, ‘Others’, ‘Add Page’ and ‘Delete Page’….

JAPAN-GAME-COMPANY-NINTENDO-EARNINGS
Last month, for the second year running, Nintendo abstained from the three-way press conference battle royale at E3. Instead, it focused on a pre-recorded ‘Digital Event‘ presentation that was streamed online, as well as a Super Smash Bros. tournament and numerous demos livestreamed by its renowned Treehouse team throughout the week. Was it the right move? Perhaps. At Nintendo’s latest annual shareholder meeting, the company said its Digital Event livestream hit 4 to 5 million views, while its Treehouse coverage “numbered in the tens of millions.” Shigeru Miyamoto, the video game designer behind Nintendo classics such as Mario, The Legend of…

At The Pool today launched its new iOS app, Yeti, in an effort to pivot to fostering local discussions about places to go and things to do. Yeti uses a Tinder-like card interface to present conversations that it thinks you’re interested in. Drawing on your swipes and the data collected from At The Pool, the app will learn as you use it.       At The Pool started out as an “anti-Facebook” designed to get users offline and out meeting new people. However, the startup decided to pivot when it realized that most of its users were using the…

Facebook Messenger is now optimized for iPad

Posted In: Apps, Around the Web, Insider

Just a few months after Facebook revealed it was removing Messenger from its main iOS and Android apps, the social networking giant has finally introduced iPad support for its standalone Facebook Messenger app. Facebook Messenger for iPad There has been a flurry of Facebook activity on the mobile messaging front of late. Earlier this year, it bought the perennially popular WhatsApp for a cool $19 billion. And just last month, it introduced another messaging app called Slingshot, which we called an ephemeral messaging app to rival Snapchat. It’s a bit of a bonkers idea that has divided opinions, but essentially…

World Cup by Gabriel Smith (CC)
Unless you live in a cave, you’ll have noticed that Brazil is currently welcoming the FIFA World Cup 2014. For some reason I was expecting it would result in a news slowdown and well, I couldn’t have been more mistaken. Not only did this giant event bring its fair share of tech-related announcements, but startups also kept on working and closing new deals. Here are the news you can’t miss among all the noise: A tech-heavy World Cup Let’s start with some interesting news bits from the World Cup itself. As we reported, each game has resulted in a huge…
