Inbox launches as an open-source email platform to replace legacy protocols

Email is a painfully out-of-date technology, but it’s not going anywhere. A new startup, Inbox, is launching its “next-generation email platform” as an alternative to aging protocols like IMAP and SMTP. Before you email junkies get too excited, this is a platform play, so there’s no user-facing app just yet. The core of Inbox’s efforts is an Inbox Sync Engine for developers that adds a modern API on top of mail providers, including Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook.com. Google Play Music app for iOS gets gapless playback and can download subscribed playlists

The awkwardly named Google Play Music app for iOS got an important update today if you’re a fan of EDM (electronic dance music) or concept albums like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, gapless playback. The Google Play Music update is available now and also introduces the ability to download playlists you’ve subscribed to; see what music you’ve downloaded to your device, and has improved recommendations. It fixed various bugs and the loading of music after an update. So update now with the knowledge that your dance parties will no longer endure that second of silence between jams. ➤…
