Quotable

"The network news shows dedicated twenty times more coverage to Tiger Woods' affairs than they did to the Climategate scandal. They figure now that the cat is out of the bag, it's less interesting to nail cagey lying scientists with punchlines than it is to cage the big cat lying down with his club and females. The big bro.ad.cast media can't see the climate change forrest for the Woods." ~ Laughzilla

manything
Manything, a cloud-based video monitoring service that allows you to use old iOS devices as security cameras around your home, has released a new version of its app today which brings new functionality and support for its freshly-launched IFTTT channel. Announced today, the new app allows users to set motion sensitivity, define motion detection zones and directly view a live stream or recorded footage from an iPhone. Samsung and Oculus VR are believed to be working on a virtual reality headset together, with Oculus providing the software and Samsung producing the hardware. SamMobile has obtained a reported render of the headset, which is said to be called the Gear VR and could launch at the IFA 2014 trade show in September. From the looks of it, users will plug in their own Galaxy smartphones to use the device, relying on the phone’s sensors to power the head-tracking system. The headset also appears to have a trackpad on top and a “see-through button” for activating a camera to view…

One of the most common questions I get asked as a writer/blogger/content marketer is where I get my ideas from. Publishing as often as I do (multiple times per week, up to every weekday sometimes), ideas are certainly something I need a lot of. Since people seem interested in how this works for me, I thought I’d share some of the ways that work best for me (so far—it’s always a work in progress!). TED talks…

Lyft to launch in New York, but just Brooklyn and Queens for now

Ridesharing service Lyft just announced that it will enter the New York City market on Friday at 7pm Eastern, but it’s avoiding Manhattan in favor of the Brooklyn and Queens boroughs. Lyft noted that it is launching first in the areas of New York that are “vastly underserved by public transit options.” The company claims to have undertaken a screening process for all NYC drivers that is more stringent than the city’s taxi companies.
