Leave your DSLR at home: The Huawei P30 Pro is the only camera a traveller needs

A few weeks ago, when my colleagues were busy listening to Mark Zuckerberg yanking about a ‘Privacy-first future’ of Facebook, I was exploring the streets of Europe, drinking fresh beer. The iPhone Xs, with my main SIM card, was one of the phones I was carrying for the trip. But, I had to decide what my secondary handset would be. I almost chose the Pixel 3 XL (which I had been using for months), but instead, I went for the Huawei P30 Pro – mostly because of its quad-camera system. And after using it consistently during my travel I was…

Facebook is launching a ‘global’ cryptocurrency in 2020 – we’re all doomed

Rumors that Facebook has been working on a cryptocurrency haven’t exactly flown under the radar. And with the latest revelation, the Facebook cryptocurrency machine looks set to step up a gear. Facebook says it will be launching its cryptocurrency – GlobalCoin –  “in about a dozen countries” by the first quarter of 2020. We can expect more solid details by summer, BBC reports. Over the last few months, Zuckerberg has met with Bank of England governor Mark Carney to discuss the company’s cryptocurrency plans. Zuck also met with representatives from Gemini – a firm founded by institutional crypto-bigwigs and his nemeses,…

I’m an avid consumer of any TV series or podcast that’s even remotely political. I love the drama, intrigue, maneuvering, and most of all, the power. But when it comes to the actual workings of the world of geopolitics, diplomacy, and backroom dealings (those are still a thing, right?), I’m kind of clueless. Then I’m even more oblivious when you throw out the term “cyber diplomat.” Is it a Robocop-esque humanoid with a British judge’s wig? No clue, all I know is it sounds cool. That’s why I went to Tallinn to speak with Estonia’s first Ambassador at Large for…

Fake Facebook accounts are influencing African elections

Facebook has issued a statement on how it removed fake accounts originating from Israel that ran Facebook Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts that carried false information looking to influence elections in several African countries. This forms part of Facebook looking to redeem itself and act proactively in its fight against having its platforms used to spread fake news, especially politically motivated fake news. In its statement, Facebook has said that it noticed “co-ordinated inauthentic behavior” originating from Israel targeting Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Angola, Niger and Tunisia and that led its staff to investigate further. “Today we removed 265 Facebook and Instagram accounts, Facebook…
