Apps - iPhone - iOS
Dual-platform crash-reporting tool Crashlytics has announced Answers, an analytics tool for iOS and Android apps that have been deployed or are in beta. The new feature helps developers measure growth, engagement and retention. The Crashlytics dashboard tracks app data while in beta and after being launched in the Google Play and iTunes App Store. With Answers, developers can now see vital information about how their apps are performing for engagement and stability. The dashboard looks similar to the analytics used by Web sites to track user visits. The feature tracks app data and will alert developers when a pattern seems amiss. This is especially helpful…

Facebook today announced a pilot initiative to support free internet via Wi-Fi to students, launching first in Forest City, North Carolina, in partnership with Pangaea, a nonprofit provider of high speed internet. Forest City is a part of the Rutherford County school district, which recently started a program to provide a laptop to every middle and high school student in the area. As planned, Microsoft today started shipping its Kinect for Windows v2 sensor, priced at $199. At the same time, the company has also released the free SDK 2.0 public preview, which you can download now directly from Microsoft.com. Microsoft wouldn’t say how quickly it is filling pre-orders. The company merely revealed “thousands” of Kinect for Windows v2 sensors were sent off to developers worldwide today, and that more will be leaving the warehouse in the coming weeks as the company works “to fill orders as quickly as possible.” We’ve known for a while now that the Kinect for Windows v2…

Skype today updated its modern Windows app (read: Metro version) with free group video calling. As a result, the feature is now available on Windows tablets and Windows 2-in-1 devices, not just in Windows desktop mode. Skype says it optimized the group video calling experience for modern Windows “so that the three most talkative people – plus yourself – are visible at the same time.” That being said, you can be on a call with up to 10 people: their videos will come to the forefront when they start speaking and you can double tap on them to see them…
