Amazon has announced that its mobile ad network supports iOS devices as of today, and will be adding support for its Fire phone on July 25, the day it launches. The move means developers can now place both banner and interstitial ads across Android, iOS, and Fire OS devices. At the same time, Amazon is also expanding ad serving to users in Spain and Italy across Android and iOS. This means the Amazon Mobile Ad Network now serves ads to users in six countries (the US, the UK, Germany, and France being the other four). Amazon first introduced its Mobile…

Hailo-Press-Shot-3591
Remember back in May, when Google added Uber as a transit option to Google Maps? Well, now e-hailing app Hailo is getting in on the action with news that it’s to be integrated into Citymapper, the increasingly popular city navigation app for Android and iOS. Citymapper is still fairly limited in terms of global availability, and for now is restricted to London, New York, Paris, Berlin, Washington DC, Boston, Madrid, and Barcelona. More cities are being added all the time though.     Hailo integration is only being added to six cities on Citymapper for now – London, New York, Barcelona,…

Commuter Chaos As RMT Workers Bring London Underground To A Standstill
Wi-Fi connectivity is already available in the London Underground, but to gain access you currently need to be a Vodafone, O2, EE (including T-Mobile and Orange) or Virgin Media customer. Otherwise, you need to pay for a Virgin Media Wi-Fi Pass. Three has been strangely absent from the free Wi-Fi extravaganza, but that’s all set to change later this month. The carrier is partnering with Virgin Media – who installed the Wi-Fi network before the London 2012 Olympics – to give its subscribers free internet access before the end of the month. Virgin Media’s Wi-Fi network currently stretches to 137 stations on the…

SPAIN-TECHNOLOGY-MOBILE-WORLD-CONGRESS-NOKIA
Microsoft plans to “shift” some of its Nokia X smartphones from Android to Windows Phone. In the midst of a memo announcing up to 18,000 job cuts, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed the change in focus: “To win in the higher price tiers, we will focus on breakthrough innovation that expresses and enlivens Microsoft’s digital work and digital life experiences. In addition, we plan to shift select Nokia X product designs to become Lumia products running Windows. This builds on our success in the affordable smartphone space and aligns with our focus on Windows Universal Apps.” To be clear, this doesn’t…

Satya Nadella Named CEO of Microsoft
It’s official. After widespread rumors and speculation, Microsoft today confirmed its plans to cut 18,000 jobs over the next 12 months. In a memo to employees, chief executive Satya Nadella said the bulk of the layoffs – 12,500 in total – would come from Nokia’s Devices and Services division, which the company acquired for $7.2 billion this year. The relatively new Microsoft leader emphasized these were part of its “synergies and strategic alignment” and would consist of both professional and factory workers. Microsoft is already “moving” to reduce its workforce by 13,000 and Nadella said the “vast majority” of affected employees will…
