Top cryptocurrencies outperform Bitcoin in latest price pump (except XRP)

Bitcoin‘s price has broken $8,700 to reach its highest value in over a year – but that’s nothing compared to the price growth enjoyed by popular alternative cryptocurrencies like Litecoin (LTC), Binance Coin (BNB), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Even controversial cryptocurrency Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BitcoinSV) pumped more than 60 percent last week, but boutique analysis firm Delphi Digital reports its still one of the worst performers year-to-date. “Historically higher beta names like LTC and BCH outperformed, as some alternative crypto assets played a bit of catch up to Bitcoin,” reads Delphi Digital’s latest market commentary. “Return dispersion was a bit more…

PSA: Stay away from this ‘Bitcoin Collector’ app – it’s malware

Have you come across a new “Bitcoin Collector” program promising up to $45 worth of free cryptocurrency each day? It might sound enticing, but best to stay away: the app is a virus designed to infect your system with ransomware or password-stealing malware. The scam, which is currently spreading through a series of sketchy websites, essentially offers victims a chance to earn 3 Ethereum (about $800 at the time of writing) in exchange for referring 1,000 visits through a referral link. The same websites also contain ads to software which generates “BTC for FREE” with the “Bitcoin Collector” app. The…

WiFi alliance and SD Associates’ ban won’t affect Huawei (badly) (yet)

If you think your life sucks, you should look at what’s happening to Huawei. Last week, a bunch of companies stopped doing business with the Chinese tech giant. The list included Google, Intel, Qualcomm, and ARM. Now, over the weekend, WiFi alliance and SD association have broken up with Huawei. Nikkei Asian Review noted the Chinese company has been “temporarily restricted.”  The alliance said in a statement it’s complying with the US commerce department order: Wi-Fi Alliance is fully complying with the recent U.S. Department of Commerce order without revoking Huawei Technologies membership. Wi-Fi Alliance has temporarily restricted Huawei Technologies participation…

Here are some of the hottest stories you might’ve missed over the weekend. 1. Louis Vuitton, the favorite luxury fashion brand of people without any sense of style, is launching a blockchain pilot designed to help customers verify they’re not blowing their pockets empty on counterfeit clothing. ConsenSys and Microsoft are helping the company get the platform off the ground. 2. Privacy-oriented messenger Telegramwill reportedly be introducing its own blockchain programming language specifically built for its upcoming cryptocurrency platform, Cointelegraph…

Apple’s privacy reputation at risk with new iTunes class-action lawsuit

May27
by Sindy Cator on May 27, 2019 at 8:23 am

Apple has marketed itself as a company that puts customers’ privacy first, but a new class-action lawsuit claims to the contrary. Leigh Wheaton, Jill Paul, and Trevor Paul — three iTunes users from Rhode Island and Michigan — filed a federal lawsuit against the Cupertino-based tech giant alleging that the company unlawfully collects and sells their iTunes listening information to third parties without informed consent. The claims, if true, are bound to puncture a hole in Apple’s pro-privacy stance, which it touted earlier this year with the ad slogan: “What happens on your iPhone stays on your iPhone.” Apple never shows…
