After debuting as Dev and Canary channels in June, the 64-bit version of Chrome for Windows 7 and Windows 8 has now landed as a beta channel. As noted previously, the 64-bit version of Google’s popular browser should be faster than its 32-bit counterpart, especially in graphics and multimedia content, and also safer because of its ability to leverage new OS features such as High Entropy ASLR on Windows 8. In addition, 64-bit Chrome should feel more stable than the 32-bit version, with fewer crashes during general use. The new 64-bit version of Chrome is still a beta, so a few…

The Wikimedia Foundation announced that it will now accept Bitcoin donations. The foundation will use Bitcoin exchange Coinbase to convert the virtual currency to US dollars. The foundation had been asked by its member to accept the crypto-currency and after a careful review of how to legally and technically accept Bitcoin, the foundation will now accept your virtual money donations. For its part, Coinbase announced that it will offer zero processing fees for non-profits. The Wikimedia Foundation is responsible for the enormous online database of mostly true facts, Wikipedia. Founded in 2003 by Jimmy Wales, the non-profit is also responsible for Wiktionary,…

Google is pushing Hangouts, its group video call service, into the enterprise space in a big way. Starting today, Google Apps for Business customers no longer need a Google+ account to jump on a call; they can use their existing credentials and instantly join a conversation with up to 14 other people in high-definition. To coincide with the move, Google has shifted Hangouts under the same Terms of Service that cover its other Google Apps for Business products, such as Gmail and Google Drive. As a result, customers can expect 24-hour phone support, 99.9 percent “guaranteed” uptime (although even Google…

Pinterest has announced the acquisition of Icebergs, a service for organizing visual content in the cloud. As part of the deal, Icebergs will shut down on September 1, 2014. Existing users of Icebergs can export their data to Dropbox or as a .json file ahead of the shutdown. Icebergs founders César Isern and Albert Pereta noted that the service had grown to reach “hundreds of thousands” of creatives over the past year, but now at Pinterest, the team have the opportunity to reach tens of millions of users.
