One of my favorite features in VSCO Cam is the slider that allows you to control the intensity of each filter. Fellow photo-editing app Aviary has just introduced similar functionality to its iOS app, giving mobile photographers greater control over the look and feel of their images. To unlock the new granular control, users will need to open a photo and select the Effects option from the toolbar, followed by an analog-inspired filter of their choice. By tapping the filter icon once more, an intensity slider will appear at the bottom of the screen. The slider runs from 0 to…

Uber begins offering taxi cab bookings in Tokyo

It’s turning into an interesting week for Uber in Asia. The company launched a peer-to-peer ride service in Beijing — which is also, strangely, a non-profit — and now it has expanded to cover regular taxi cab bookings in Tokyo. Unlike other Uber services, ‘uberTAXI’ will connect customers with licensed taxis in Japan’s capital city, in the same way that rival service Grabtaxi does across Southeast Asia. Uber launched a similar cab service in London in June, at the same time that taxi drivers were protesting against its service. That makes Tokyo the second city to get this service, which is aptly being announced…

Barcelona Cabs Strike Against Uber Taxi App

Private car-for-hire service Uber has taken an interesting direction in China. In what seems like a mind-boggling move, it has launched a trial of ‘People’s Uber’ in China, a ridesharing service that will be non-profit for Uber, though passengers will need to pay for their rides. In a blog post elaborating on ‘People’s Uber,’ the company says that it has brought in the peer-to-peer ridesharing option at the request of many riders and drivers in Beijing, adding on to the company’s current Uber BLACK and UberX services in the city.
