Dow Drops Back Below 12,000 On Greek Default Fears

Pandora today announced its first deal with artists by partnering with Merlin, which it described as the world’s largest organization for independent record labels. Its members represent over 20,000 labels, which command around 10 percent of the global and US streaming music markets. The deal, which applies to Pandora’s business in the US, is meant to help independent labels and artists grow both their audiences and their royalties. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the two companies say the agreement is “structured to protect the economics of participating labels.” Here are the partnership’s details: Pandora will accelerate the discovery of…

101 Ready to Use Excel Formulas

It’s for sale. If you pre-ordered, it’s probably on the way. If you didn’t, well, you know what to do.

I got my copy last night. My wife, who is not an Excel geek by any stretch of the imagination, is excited to read it. At 240 pages, it’s not the usual phone book sized tech book, and it seems more accessible to her. What she doesn’t realize is that it’s packed with awesome formulas and she’s actually going to learn something. That’ll show her.

After being on sale for a few hours it’s the 643,122nd ranked book in the world. Let’s see if we can get that up to 643,121.

on October 24, 2011 in London, England.

Chancellor George Osborne said at an event in London today that he wants the UK to be at the pinnacle of financial technology (FinTech) and virtual currency developments. The UK capital is well known for being one of the world’s financial centers, and the chancellor wants to take advantage of that experience and heritage to ensure that future technology services are developed within the country. Osborne made the comments at the Innovate Finance launch event held at Level 39, noting that the UK had all the key factors required to be a FinTech leader. We have among the best scientific research; one of the…

Wix is to target those looking to book a holiday online with its own booking engine builder. Users can access WixHotels through the platform’s app market and then install it onto their primary dashboards. It frees up the need to know how to code with a built-in system that allows you to add your room inventory. Also, it’s not limited to reservations made natively, offering support for third-party platforms. The feature is currently in beta, but it will operate on a freemium basis after that. ➤ Wix Thumbnail image credit: Getty Images

Doctor on Demand today announced a desktop browser version of its video service for on-demand doctor’s visits. The company has also closed a $21 million Series A funding round and signed a partnership with Comcast that will offer the cable company’s employees free access to the service. Previously, patients could take appointments on iOS and Android. The new Web version is optimized for Chrome on Mac and PC. Check-ups cost a flat fee of $40 and last roughly 15 minutes. All of Doctor on Demand’s physicians are board-certified for the state they’re taking calls in. The service is 24/7 in most…
