Saavn, one of a handful of Spotify would-bes in India, is moving beyond Bollywood music after adding 800,000 tracks from international artists to its catalog via licensing agreements with Warner Music and EMI. Two record deals takes Saavn’s library up to nearly two million tracks, but more importantly it means the service now covers all major labels in the US, including Sony and Universal. By offering artists like Coldplay, Led Zeppelin and Madonna, US-headquartered Saavn hopes to widen its appeal to music lovers in India. “We want to be the first stop for music in India, especially on a smartphone, whatever you are listening to. That means…

From her home base in Los Angeles, Roxy Radulescu has worked on a variety of projects, from traditional graphic design to more craft-oriented projects and her newest endeavor, Movies In Color. This post was originally published on the Shutterstock blog and has been reprinted with permission. As a graphic designer, my relationship to color is best described as complicated. I’ve spent countless minutes staring at a Pantone book, or on my computer clicking around the color wheel in Photoshop, searching for that perfect shade of blue/green/orange/red that would really make the design “pop,” as clients seem to often demand. In my…

on March 2, 2010 in London, England.

The BBC has detailed a wider range of internet-connected TVs, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players that will soon be able to take advantage of the redesigned iPlayer interface first rolled-out across its desktop platform and mobile apps. Announced in a blog post today, you can see the list of newly-supported devices below. However, if you were hoping for an update to your YouView, Virgin Media or BT boxes then you’re out of luck for now. The BBC said that these, and other devices, will hopefully be migrated across to the new design before the end of the year. Similarly, the new BBC iPlayer should…

Most people spend their lives rushing from one place to another, so it’s little surprise that most people also, at some point, end up misplacing a phone. In the best case scenario, it’s locked and you can track it on a map using Google’s free Android Device Manager app or a third-party option – but that doesn’t help much with your chances of getting it back quickly and painlessly. Now, however, if you’re lucky enough to lose your phone and have it found by a kindly soul who’s willing to return it, that process should be a lot easier thanks to the…

Automatic life-logging diary app Rove roves onto Android

Rove

Automatic ‘diary’ app Rove has been gradually iterating on iOS for some time, and today it’s made the leap to Android. Rove is designed to bridge the gap between apps like Facebook’s Moves (that track your activity) and those like Timehop that present old memories in an attractive way. It logs the places you go, how you get to them and the photos you take when you’re there – the idea being that you can later look back to remember days gone by in detail. The app is largely a private journal, although if you’re particularly fond of a particular day, you…
