Google today stopped showing authorship in search results, meaning articles will no longer include a link to the Google+ profile of their author. The company says that it found the information isn’t as useful to its users as it hoped, and in some cases even distracts from the overall search results. The official Authorship in web-search support page merely states “Authorship markup is no longer supported in web search.” Those interested in adding markup to their websites are pointed to rich snippets and structured data. In June, Google removed authors’ Google+ profile pictures from search results. At the time, Google’s…

At the height of #TBT (Throw Back Thursday), Instagram is down. The mobile app photo feeds are not refreshing and the desktop site is throwing a “500 Internal Server Error.” The company tweeted the following: Instagram is experiencing some technical issues. We’re aware and working on a fix. — Instagram (@instagram) August 28, 2014 We’ll keep refrshing the site and app until everything returns back to normal and we can once again post photos of ourselves as children. Plus, there’s a good chance meals all over the world will get cold as users keep trying to upload photos of their food…

Ahead of the September 9 event, Apple has updated its HealthKit privacy policy for developers to keep user data out of the hands of advertisers and data brokers. The Financial Times reports that the company’s updated policy will stop third-party apps from using personal data collected while using the HealthKit platform for anything other than informing users of their health. Announced at WWDC as part of the upcoming iOS 8 launch, HealthKit is a central repository that collects data from all third-party health apps on a device that enable the collection. The information is parsed by HealthKit and presented via the…
