Ariel Rosenthal is a co-founder at Xprt, a new startup looking to provide instant technical support and shopping advice from reliable and vetted experts. Working on startups for the last 10 years, I had some successes and some failures. Six months ago, I pulled the curtains on a startup I had dedicated years of my life to, but today I am working on a new venture.  After experiencing so many highs and lows, I now feel much more prepared, and confident that I gained tools and learned lessons that will help me avoid another failure.  In my previous post, I shared…

BlackBerry announces invite-only ‘See The Bigger Picture’ event for September 24

BlackBerry today announced its plans to host an invite-only events in Toronto, London and Dubai on September 24. The company wouldn’t reveal what it plans to unveil, though it is using the tagline “See The Bigger Picture.” Our best guess is the company is planning to debut the BlackBerry Passport, a smartphone with a square 4.5-inch 1440×1440 pixel display. Almost everything has already been detailed about the device, meaning it won’t be much of a big reveal, but the event does align with BlackBerry CEO John Chen statements for a September launch.

Facebookers in Europe can once again use the Tag Suggest feature to automatically recognize people in photos they upload, however it will only recognize their friends based in the US. To recap, way back in December 2010, Facebook introduced a new feature called Tag Suggestions in the States, which used facial recognition techniques to suggest people you should tag in your Facebook photos. It was shortly rolled out internationally too. The feature caused a bit of a stir in many parts of the world, particularly among privacy groups. It was subsequently suspended in Europe in September 2012, when Facebook revealed…

Netflix today launched a new social recommendation feature to let its users suggest TV shows to their Facebook friends. It is available starting today on the Netflix website, iOS, PS3, Xbox, and many set-top boxes and smart TVs, though the company says it will be adding additional platforms “in the coming months.” It’s worth emphasizing that the feature is only available when you finish watching an episode (and Netflix specifically says “shows” multiple times, but not movies). This should, in theory, reduce the chance of being spammed with recommendations by your friends. After watching, you’ll be prompted to connect your…
