Apple announces multiple profile support for tvOS

Apple opened today’s WWDC event with a few quick updates to its tvOS. In between the new iOS updates and the death of iTunes, it doesn’t sound that world-changing, but the new tvOS will offer some quality updates — including multiple user profiles, so that each family member can have their own list of shows. Tim Cook started by revealing a new home screen, with full-screen content previews for every show in your list — and every user who has their own profile will have a personalized “Up Next” list. Apple also revealed it’d be offering more Apple Music support on TV — the TV will…

Apple TV will soon support Xbox One S and and DualShock 4 controllers

Amidst a flurry of announcements at WWDC, Apple today announced that tvOS – and therefore the Apple TV – would add support for two of the most popular controllers in the world: the Xbox One S controller and the PS4’s DualShock 4. Apple has been taking gaming more seriously the past few years, highlighting games in the App Store and improving its devices’ graphics performance. It even announced a gaming subscription service called Arcade earlier this year. Problem is, the Apple TV’s remote isn’t exactly suited to gaming. Hence why today’s announcement is welcome. Then again, you could argue the…

Awkward: Apple leaks ‘iPadOS’ before WWDC 2019 even starts

Apple’s biggest secret is out, and it leaked in the minutes leading up to its annual WWDC developer conference, taking place today at San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center. The company is set to launch iPadOS, which presumably is a variant of iOS designed specifically to take advantage of a tablet environment. Several eagle-eyed Twitter users spotted references to iPadOS within the company’s terms and conditions. And while that doesn’t tell us anything about the specifics of the operating system, it does reinforce what everyone already knew: Apple regards its tablet division intrinsic to its product lineup, and its identity as…

Enterprise blockchains are screwed, 90% will need replacing by 2021

Think corporate-level blockchain adoption is going smoothly? Think again. According to new research, corporations will need to replace their enterprise blockchains within the next two years. Global research company Gartner says that 90 percent of current enterprise blockchains will need to be replaced in the next 18 months if they are to remain “competitive, secure, and avoid obsolescence,” it said in an article spotted by Computer Weekly. “Many CIOs overestimate the capabilities and short-term benefits of blockchain as a technology to help them achieve their business goals, thus creating unrealistic expectations when assessing offerings from platform vendors and service providers,”…

Bitcoin is the ‘King of the Asset Class Hill’ in 2019, analysts say

Bitcoin’s price rose more than 60 percent in May — the highest monthly return in over a year and a half. This means the world’s most popular cryptocurrency has performed better than almost any global asset in 2019. Boutique analysis firm Delphi Digital even labeled Bitcoin the “King of the Asset Class Hill” in its latest market commentary, after it posted four consecutive months of solid returns. “The acceleration in BTC’s performance comes at a time when conventional risk assets, notably global equity markets, continue to see selling pressure […],” said Delphi Digital. “May’s outperformance has been especially important given the broader…
