Amazon today introduced its ‘Login and Pay with Amazon‘ service in Europe. The tool allows businesses to update their websites with an Amazon login option, which customers can then choose to quickly pay using the details they have stored with the e-commerce giant. The service is designed to reduce friction in the checkout process, similar to how Facebook and Google offer developers their own platforms as a sign-in method for third-party apps and websites. Rather than punching in long-winded personal details – in Amazon’s instance, credit or debit card information – customers can click once and have everything submitted instantly….

If you’re a fan of Wolfram’s Mathematica app, you’ll be pleased to hear its comprehensive tools for technical computing are now more accessible. For the first time, Mathematica is available on the Web. While the desktop applications (Windows, Mac and Linux) remain unaltered, Wolfram is introducing a browser-based version called Mathematica Online that can be accessed from any internet-enabled device. Stephen Wolfram, founder and chief executive of Wolfram, said “almost all” the features found in the Mathematica desktop apps have made the jump to the Web. He admitted that it isn’t quite as “zippy,” but highlighted the new permissions feature that…

Rocket HQ Outside

Rocket Internet is out to bring its e-commerce empire to all four corners of the world. That’s according to founder and CEO Oliver Samwer, who relayed his ambitious global goals in an internal email to staff after the Germany-based incubator last week confirmed its intention to list on the Frankfurt stock exchange this year. The email, which was obtained by The Next Web and is enclosed in full at the bottom of this post, tells of the determination of Samwer and his brothers (who also co-founded the organization) to build “one of the world’s greatest Internet companies.” Samwer says that he saw the worldwide…

Russian Internet company Mail.ru has agreed to pay $1.47 billion to purchase just over 48 percent of Vkontakte, making it the sole owner of the Russian social network. The deal, announced today, takes Mail.ru’s total investment in Vkontakte to $2.07 billion. As part of the agreement, ongoing litigation and shareholder disputes have also been settled, Mail.ru said. UCP, Mail.Ru and Pavel Durov have also agreed that simultaneous with this acquisition all the outstanding litigation, and claims concerning VK and related matters between these parties will be dropped with immediate effect. ➤ MAIL.RU GROUP LIMITED Acquisition of 48% of Vkontakte [Mail.ru] Image credit: Gil…

Shazam has updated its Android app with Google Play and Google Play Music All Access integrations, making it easier to listen to tagged music through your preferred app on the go. By tapping the play button on the left, you can choose “listen in Google Play Music” and have the full…
