Google Forms gets randomized questions, menu search and short URLs

Google today announced a set of updates to its Forms online survey product, adding a search box to menus, new customization features for questions and an option to share via short URL. Menu search is located under the Help section and is accessible with an alt+/ keyboard shortcut. If you’d like to randomize the order of your questions, you can select a “shuffle questions” option. The feature is available for multiple choice, checkboxes, choose from a list and grid formats. You can also limit responses to one per user or one per column. When you’re done, clicking “Send form” pulls…

Google’s Chromebooks can now stream Adobe Photoshop

Google today announced a version of Adobe Photoshop that Chromebook owners can stream. The company says that for now, the beta will only be available to Adobe education customers in North America with a paid Creative Cloud subscription. That’s pretty restrictive, admittedly, but it highlights how Google can compete with Windows and OS X, which typically run on more powerful hardware and can handle resource-intensive, native apps. This version of Photoshop will, presumably, require a steady internet connection to use. Google says it’s fully integrated with Google Drive too, which means you won’t need to constantly download and reupload your…

Tango, the mobile messaging company specializing in texting, video and voice calling, photo sharing and social networking, has sprouted a sibling. Tango Music Pix, a new standalone app, lets you create simple 30-second photo slideshows set to music. Tango messenger has already branched out into a variety of content and games via its platform. However, the new photo slideshow app, now seeing the light of day some two months after a brief appearance on Apple’s App Store, is back, at least on Android for a short time, and available worldwide with a somewhat altered configuration. Tango Music Pix is available…

Waze now lets you edit information on places and contribute photos to help fellow drivers

Google today updated its community-powered Waze navigation app with new tools to help drivers share tips about the places they’ve visited. Version 3.9 of the iOS and Android app (sorry Windows Phone users) introduces a new feature called Waze Places, which gives users the ability to edit information about businesses and residential locations. This can include photos, which, similar to Foursquare, will help others users identify their destination, as well as driver-centric details such as drive-thru and parking availability. On that note, Waze has also added automatic parking pins, so it should be easier for forgetful drivers to remember where they…

Pay (for) attention! Chartbeat’s new certification may help publishers quit pageview addiction

Chartbeat

Sick of websites desperately trying to make you click on more and more pages? Recent times have seen a drive from some quarters to make attention, rather than pageviews, the primary way of measuring the success of online content. That movement has received a boost today as real-time analytics firm Chartbeat announced that it has gained accreditation from the Media Rating Council for attention-based measurement of both content and advertising. As the rates paid for display advertising have fallen, publishers have rushed to inflate their pageviews using clickbait titles and slideshows, while increasingly turning to higher-paying ‘native advertising’ in the form of sponsored…
