windows_10_0

Given the staunchly divided opinions Windows 8 elicited among its users, it should come as no surprise that the first look at the next iteration of the operating system has proven quite popular. According to a blog post today by Windows guy Joe Belfiore, the Windows Insider Program hit 1 million registrants over the weekend. Though the post doesn’t specify how many people are actually using the operating system versus those who only registered to download, it does say the company has received over 200,000 pieces of feedback since the program started. According to Microsoft, 64 percent of these users are…

All the stickers you’ve been using via Facebook Messenger will soon be available for all post comments. Beginning today, Facebook will be rolling out global sticker support for comments on people’s Timelines, Group posts and Event Posts. The stickers will be available from both mobile and desktop versions of the social network and the iOS and Android apps. As messaging apps have risen in popularity, so has the use of stickers by those apps. Facebook already has stickers in its Messenger mobile apps and browser. Do you know what’s boring? When you open a new tab in Google Chrome. Unless you have an extension installed, it’s a white canvas with the Google search bar and a selection of website shortcuts. Yawn. To spruce things up a bit, Google has launched an Earth View extension which displays a different, beautiful satellite image every time you open a new tab. Better yet, you can click the globe icon in the corner to see the current photo inside Google Maps. It’s a simple tool for whisking your imagination away to somewhere new and combating those glum autumnal months….

Google has developed a Smart Autofill Add-on for Google Sheets which improves the spreadsheet tool’s ability to predict values in empty fields. The baseline version of Google Sheets already has an autofill feature that can add words, numbers, or a mixture of the two based on widely available information, such as calendar dates, days of the week and ordered numbers. While useful, it’s not so helpful if you’re working with intricate datasets or reports. The new Smart Autofill Add-on uses Prediction API, a cloud-based machine learning service developed by Google, to identify and analyse the data you’ve already submitted. It will use…

There are many landmark moments and key figures who have contributed to the evolution of the internet we see today. Way back in the late 1960s, Vint Cerf was involved in a project that saw the first ever message sent from one computer to another on the ARPANET, a predecessor to the internet. And Tim Berners-Lee, the British computer scientist who created the World Wide Web in the early 90s as a way of accessing information on the Internet, is another such luminary. Today represents another key milestone in the recent history of this thing we call the Web. On…
