Top LinkedIn tricks for outfoxing your competition

linkedin

Jeremy Goldman is the founder of Firebrand Group and the author of the book GoingSocial. Let’s be honest: it’s hard to find competitive advantages these days. You’ve got access to LinkedIn, an incredibly potent professional tool, which is great – until you realize that all of your competitors have access to that same platform. I’ve always identified with Columbo, the fictional TV detective who seemed a little dim, yet constantly outwitted the subjects of his investigations. That’s probably because I’m keenly aware that on any given day, I’m going to be competing with someone smarter than me. When I’m in a…

Vine is a mobile-first video sharing app, but slowly it’s been experimenting with other platforms. After revamping its website in May, the team is launching an app for Microsoft’s Xbox One console. For now, it’ll be available to Xbox Live members in 34 markets: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States. Square videos are ill-suited to widescreen TVs, but the app accommodates for this with some…

Magneto has added cross-company group scheduling to its smart calendar service, enabling teams from different organizations to find times to meet. Magneto for Groups supports Microsoft Exchange and Google Calendar. At launch, the groups function works on the Web and iOS. Magneto plans to add Android support later. Members of a group can use the “Find a Time” filter to find out when certain combinations of people are available. Participants can choose to share full calendar details or just their busy times without any extra information. ➤ Magneto

Hailo to pull out of North America as the taxi wars heat up

Oct14
by Sindy Cator on October 14, 2014 at 4:24 pm
Posted In: Apps, Around the Web

Hailo will stop offering taxi services in North America following a rethink of company strategy amid fierce competition from rivals like Uber. Revealed today in an interview with the Financial Times, company CEO Tom Barr said the plans to close in the US and Canada were because it was impossible to make a profit there. Instead, it plans to put more focus on Europe and Asia. Barr added that the service was actually seeing growth, but that the price war between services like Uber and Lyft had removed the viability of continuing with its operations in North America. Staff in Washington, Chicago, Boston, Toronto and Montreal…

Amazon makes a gaming push with previews of three new exclusive titles

Oct14

Posted In: Around the Web, Insider

As Amazon continues to push its hardware offerings, it needs to offer up interesting content exclusive to these devices. That being said, Amazon Game Studios today announced three games to do just that. First up is Til Morning’s Light, a Fire phone exclusive action-adventure game set in a haunted mansion. It’s being co-developed with WayForward Technologies, perhaps best known for A Boy and His Blob on the Wii. Next up is Tales From Deep Space, a “comic adventure” game set in, well, space.  It features two player co-op and is exclusive to Amazon’s Fire tablets. Finally, there’s CreepStorm, a tower…
