Google announces Inbox: A more intelligent way to handle email

Google today announced a new take on email, dubbed Inbox. The free app/service includes reminders, bundles similar messages together and highlights important messages. Inbox looks like a cross between Mailbox and Google Now. An Assists feature attaches relevant information, such as telephone numbers, opening hours and maps, to your reminders and emails. Inbox is invite-only at the moment, but you can request one from inbox@google.com or get one from a friend who has invites to spare. Microsoft releases Kinect v2 SDK 2.0, allows devs to publish apps in the Windows Store

Microsoft today released the final build of its second-generation Kinect SDK 2.0 for Windows, in addition to one huge change related to Kinect app distribution: for the first time, developers can publish Kinect apps inside the Windows Store. The second iteration of Microsoft’s Kinect sensor contains a high-resolution 1080p camera capable of tracking the user’s movements and identifying voice commands. Jawbone launches Drop, a playlist service that lets friends suggest songs through Twitter

It looks like Jawbone is preparing to launch a new music service, called Drop, at Twitter’s Flight mobile developer conference today. Based on Jawbone’s own description, Drop would let users play music with their Spotify or Rdio subscription and then solicit song requests from their Twitter followers. Update: Drop’s website is now live, and it includes a download link for the iOS app (no news about Android so far). At today’s conference, Jawbone described how Drop makes use of Twitter’s new Fabric SDK to enable its integration with music services. The coming wave of 3D mobile cameras get a boost from Metaio’s new SDK

Google’s Project Tango is just one of the inititives currently aimed at bringing cameras that can ‘see’ the world in 3D to mobile devices. It’s an area that Intel and Occipital are investing in too.
