Google is retiring the Google Earth API

It’s been six years since Google introduced the Earth API for 3D mapping, but today the company is announcing its retirement. Google is letting go API because it’s built on a technology called the NPAPI plugin framework, which is being abandoned by both Chrome and Firefox for security reasons. The lack of cross-platform support on mobile devices also factored into the decision. The company says the API will shutdown a year from now on December 12, 2015. Skype updates its video messaging app Qik so you can actually save your videos now

Skype’s video messaging app Qik got an update today that should make anyone that wants to archive their best messaging videos happy. Updated today for Android and Windows Phone (an iOS update is expected in the next few days), the latest version of Qik now allows you to save your videos to your phone after sharing them with friends. To save the videos, just tap on them in the messaging timeline and choose to save it to your camera roll or you can post it to another chat.
