Something as simple as picking what song to play should be easy, but I often find myself spending too much time deliberating on my music choices when hosting friends or wanting some ambiance. Bang & Olufsen recognizes this issue and wants to streamline the “domestic music experience” with its new BeoSound Moment streaming device. On its default configuration, the device is a minimalist wooden panel that rests on a base and lets you start playing music with just a tap; a circular portion of the the wood is touch sensitive. Fancy. The Moment will then use something called ‘Pattern Play’ to learn your listening…

Intel again
At its CES event today,  Intel announced a new program to help minorities and women achieve greater representation in technology companies: the Diversity in Technology initiative. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich called on other members of the technology industry to join in its goal to achieve full representation (to match actual population numbers) by the year 2020. Intel intends to achieve this by increasing its hiring, progression and retention of minority and women employees. Additionally, Krzanich says Intel will invest $300 million in the next five years to take the necessary steps towards more diversified representation in the industry, particularly in the engineering…

3D scanning, modeling and printing are all big topics here at CES 2015 – so much so that there is an entire section at the Sands Expo convention center dedicated to companies within the category. And while we’ve seen lots of people take selfies while roaming the show floors, none of the results can compare to Fuel3D‘s handheld 3D scanner Scanify. Unlike traditional 3D scanners which are large, mostly immovable and rely on lasers to capture image, the Scanify is portable and uses two camera lens and three flashes to snap the photo. The technology is akin to the human eyes,…

A selfie drone on your wrist sounds too good to be true, but Nixie has pulled it off. It’s a tiny bracelet you wear and can take off at any point, throw into the air and it takes a selfie automatically for you. At Intel’s CES keynote, Nixie showed off it’s little autonomous drone and successfully took a snap. A live demo on stage showed it really is as easy as throwing it in front of you, then it moves slightly further away, takes a photo and comes right back. Nixie was announced back in September, but it was cool…

Intel’s RealSense technology is in drones now, too, with the company demoing drones equipped with the technology that can automatically avoid people and objects. RealSense allows the drones to build 3D maps of their surroundings and automatically adjust themselves to avoid hazards. A demo showed four people running toward the drones to play “ping pong” and it automatically avoiding them with ease; maybe not the best idea at home, though. A second demo put a drone with RealSense through it’s paces live on an obstacle course with no problems. RealSense being used like this is a surprise, but also incredibly smart.…
