Jobspotting
Looking for a job online is often a pain, with search sites that haven’t seen a major update in approach for years. Jobspotting is a new Berlin-based startup that wants to make finding relevant vacancies as easy as it is to use recommendation engines from the likes of Netflix and Pandora. I took it for a spin and found it super-quick to get to a list of relevant vacancies. I just connected up my LinkedIn account, picked the relevant tags from there that I wanted to use for my search, set my seniority level and the cities in which I…

Google’s announced that it’s making it easier for developers to integrate Google Maps services into their apps. It’s been making them available through a JavaScript Maps API for some time but has now added Java and Python libraries. The new Java and Python Google Maps libraries support the Directions API, Distance Matrix API, Elevation API, Geocoding API and Time Zone API. Google says developers can rely on the code in the client libraries to interface with those services and spend more time developing unique features for their apps. Java developers can find the code at Google’s GitHub repository. Python developers can get the specific code and…

We knew it was coming but Tesco has finally managed to offload Blinkbox, its loss-making streaming service. Though Vodafone was a potential buyer, it’s TalkTalk that has ended up making the deal. TalkTalk says integrating Blinkbox into its existing TV business will “begin immediately”. As part of the agreement, it’s also acquired Tesco’s broadband and voice services. Tesco Broadband’s estimated 75,000 internet and 20,000 voice customers will be transferred to TalkTalk’s service over the next few months. The move will strengthen the company’s position at an important time for the market with BT in negotiations to complete a £12.5 billion buyout…

UberCARGO

In spite of facing numerous roadblocks in running its service around the world, Uber isn’t stepping on the brakes anytime soon. The cab service has just launched UberCARGO in Hong Kong, a new program that lets users hail vans to help them move house, transport large items and even allow businesses to make deliveries. Users can request a van to pick up their stuff, and can choose to ride along in the back seat or send it on its way to a recipient while tracking the vehicle via the Uber app. Drivers can also be requested to assist in loading…
