Tidying Up the Project Explorer

You know that pressing Ctrl+R in the VBE takes you to the Project Explorer. Of course you do. I’m not going to sit here and insult your intelligence by pretending that you don’t. But that means you are probably also just as confused as I am about which projects the VBE “chooses” to expand and which stay closed.

I have a lot of add-ins and that makes my Project Explorer very messy. Ideally I want the active project to be expanded and everything else collapsed. But I can’t have that. I decided I’ve had enough and added the following hotkey to my AutoHotKey VBE.ahk file.

^+r::
    Send ^r
    Send {End}
    Loop 20 {
        Send {Left 2}{Up}
    }

When I’m in the VBE (an IfWinActive condition in VBE.ahk) and press Ctrl+Shift+R, the focus goes to the Project Explorer, goes to the last project, then closes up to 20 of them. Two left arrows will collapse an expanded project and has no effect on a collapsed project. The up arrow goes to the next project. Genius, you say? I humbly agree.

I don’t keep my modules in Folders (Toggle folders using the button at the top of the Project Explorer). If you do, you’ll need to change the {Left 2} to {Left 4}.

#charity urges techies to donate their time and expertise to help non-profit organizations

HashtagCharity
While it’s always nice to see tech companies make good on their Corporate Social Responsibility promises with donations and initiatives, a new program from Budapest will soon let individuals from the industry pitch in, by volunteering their skills to help NGOs. Set to launch this March, #charity is a platform that connects non-profits with IT professionals to collaborate on projects like apps, sites and content that would normally cost a pretty penny to commission. In addition to helping NGOs save money, it gives techies a chance to lend a helping hand while making the best use of their skills and experience. The…

Microsoft Lumia 830 and 930 arriving in special golden edition starting next week

Microsoft today announced that its Lumia 830 and 930 Windows Phone 8.1-based smartphones will soon be available in a special anodized golden finish on the chassis. While the devices are otherwise unchanged, if you’ve been awaiting a slightly classier looking version of either handset, then this is the news you wanted. The Lumia 930 Gold will arrive first – in black – from this week, and will then be made available in white at the end of the month. The Lumia 830 Gold, will also be available in the same colors and is set to land in February.  The 830 and…

Big Mac with Qis? Wireless charging comes to 50 McDonalds restaurants in the UK

Jan08

Burger-chomping McDonalds customers in the UK will soon get the opportunity to wirelessly charge their Qi-compliant (pronounced ‘Chee’) smartphones while in the company’s restaurants, thanks to an extended deal with Air Charge. The good news: There will be more than 600 individual wireless chargers awaiting (completely free) use. The bad news: Those 600 charging spots will be spread across only 50 of the company’s restaurants in the UK, with many of them in London. In total, there are more than 1,200 McDonalds in the UK, so the chances of randomly walking into one with a Qi charger seems quite low.…

FBI Director says IP addresses gave North Korean Sony hackers away, but he could be wrong

The Interview
There’s been a lot of back-and-forth in the curious case of the Sony Pictures cyber-attack last November, as to who is to blame — but now, FBI director James Comey is more certain than ever that North Korea was involved. Speaking at a cybersecurity conference yesterday, Comey reiterated findings that showed the hackers failed to hide their IP addresses, which point to computer systems in North Korea, reports WIRED. The FBI claims that the hackers occasionally failed to mask their IP addresses, which gave away the origin of their attack. However, as Professor Alan Woodward at the University of Surrey…
