Companies collect a lot of data. What do you do you do when you have a lot of data? You visualize it, of course. That’s what AirBnB is doing today, introducing an interactive map that shows off Airbnb activity around the world, including off guest check-ins and global hotspots. The map also plots activity for AirBnB’s #OneLessStranger social campaign, which the company introduced a year ago as a challenge offering $10 to 100,000 users that shared their experiences with strangers around the world using the campaign’s hashtag. The virtual globe is riddled with interesting data points (33,000 guests stayed in New…

PayPal’s payment service is used all around the internet, but its credit service (formerly Bill Me Later) is less popular in comparison. According to an announcement made at the National Retail Federation conference, the company wants to make PayPal Credit more enticing for businesses and users alike by providing more flexible payment options. Retailers now have the ability to set payment timeframes and interest rates, including no interest at all. The change gives businesses finer control over providing payment options that best work for their specific set of customers. Additionally, PayPal will be providing business consulting to help retailers make the most of its service. This…

‘Better late than never’ would be one expression that applies for TalkTalk customers today, as the company has announced that its YouView-based TalkTalk TV packages now include access to Netflix’s streaming services. Of course, you’ll still need to pay for a Netflix subscription separately, you can now just view the content straight on your TV without faffing around. BT and other YouView boxes have been able to access the service since the end of 2014. The company said the software update would roll out first to customers who had already registered their interest and will be on all its 1.2…

GitHub launched its Student Developer Pack late last year with a selection of handy tools for developers currently studying a diploma or degree course. Now the offer’s even more enticing – Microsoft’s adding Visual Studio Community 2013 into the mix. Through the GitHub pack, student developers can access Visual Studio’s tools, designers ands debuggers for creating web, mobile, desktop and cloud apps with C#, Node.js, Python, F# and VB amongst others. Shazam will now use beacon technology to recommend songs based on your location

Just as the company teased last week during CES 2015, Shazam has officially announced it is adding context awareness SDK Gimbal to its software to provide location-based recommendations. Using beacon technology to locate the user’s proximity, the app will provide a more contextual recommendation based on when and where the user is at any given time. The move is on par with what Shazam CEO Rich Riley told us last week in the company’s effort to link Shazam closer to users in real life. Instead of being just a search-based app to figure out who sings what song, it wants to deliver content in…
