"Widespread apathy to the Grimsvotn Volcano eruption in Iceland is reflected by the Mild interest it raised in Google Trends. This demonstrates the weakness a story on the web if it does not include babes, cyberculture, or relationships. In other words, Iceland may regret that it is not led by a nefarious womanizer like Arnold Schwarzenegger." ~ Yasha Harari

You can almost hear Woody Allen’s famous nasal voice in the quote attached to Amazon’s announcement that it’s signed him to create his first television series: “I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.” It’s a typically self-deprecating joke but I’m willing to bet Price, Vice-President of Amazon Studios, really will come to regret it. Last year, Dylan Farrow, Allen’s adoptive daughter, wrote a post, published by The New York Times, in which she accused him of sexually abusing her as a child.…

Amazon Studios has announced that it’s signed up Woody Allen to write and direct his first ever television show. The Untitled Woody Allen Project will be a half-hour series. Amazon has ordered a full season and all the episodes will be written and directed by Allen. The series will be exclusively available on Prime Instant Video in the US, UK and Germany. The news that Allen is developing a show for the company was announced by Amazon Studios Vice President, Roy Price. Allen himself says: “I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure…

If you’re looking for a fun maker project, Chris Robinson at Node has posted a great one – building a Raspberry Pi-powered handheld Linux terminal with a distinctly Nintendo DS-style look. Robinson says his creation is “best suited to command line stuff” and “a pretty good tool for learning the command line interface as well as basic scripting.” The post gives you the full recipe of parts, tools and software you’ll need to build your own. Make sure you read to the end as Robinson suggests he’d go for a different screen if he started all over again. Most excitingly, Robinson says he’s…

Style Jukebox
If you’re like me and have been collecting digital music since the early 2000s, you might want to listen up. Style Jukebox is launching a new Web app and a revamped iPhone app to stream all your tunes in the same format you uploaded them. While Style Jukebox was previously available only on Windows desktops and mobile platforms, the new Web-based player lets users upload and play tracks from their browser on Mac and Linux, without the need to install another app. Meanwhile, the new iPhone app sports a fresh look and notable features including on-the-fly transcoding that maintains the…

The Internet of Things is pretty good in theory. Connect everything up to the internet and control it all remotely, providing you have the cash to retrofit all the necessary tech into your home. Add in things like stereos, TVs and other devices, and you’ve probably got quite a few remotes piling up in your house, which is why Neeo has launched a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter for its ‘thinking remote.’ In a nutshell, it wants to control everything in your home that it’s possible to control remotely – whether that’s the lights, window blinds, the TV (things like Apple…
