Adobe has announced that the upcoming Lightroom 6, its Creative Cloud photo manager, will support only 64-bit operating systems. The new version of the software, which last saw a major upgrade in April of 2013, will no longer support 32-bit operating systems. Lightroom 6 will thus require Mac OS X 10.8 or above, or a 64 bit version of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. “Focusing our work on more modern operating systems and architectures allows us to spend more time adding functionality requested by users, including additional advanced imaging features and improving general application performance,” Sharad Mangalick, Adobe’s photo product manager, stated on the…

If you’re going to go through the trouble of stealing an iPad, you should at least wipe the device before taking a selfie. Texas Police today arrested the two miscreants, Dorian Walker-Gaines and Dillian Thompson, after their celebratory selfie was automatically uploaded to the victim’s iCloud account. Walker-Gaines also confessed to stealing $5,000, a laptop and other items from the victim’s unlocked vehicle. Once the photos started circulating online, a Reddit user was able to contact one of Schaefer’s friends and provide the thieves’ names and birth dates. While the pleas to free Barrett Brown filled Twitter and other social media over the past two years, the courts had other ideas. Today Brown was sentenced to five years, three months in prison for obstruction of justice, aiding-and-abetting and threats made against an FBI agent. The charges stem from the 2011 Stratfor hack. Brown did not partake in the hack, instead he copy and pasted a link to the pilfered data from one chatroom to another. The data included email addresses and credit card numbers. ➤ Barrett Brown Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison in Connection to Stratfor Hack [Wired] Image credit: Shutterstock…

Microsoft HoloLens RGB
“There are no recording devices allowed during the demo.” While Microsoft was happy to show off what the finished HoloLens would look like during its Windows 10 event keynote, it was less inclined to let journalists take photos, shoot video or even record audio of the demos it was doling out in its headquarters. But, if you wanted to see Microsoft’s take on the potential future of computing, and didn’t mind cramming all your gear into a gym locker, you complied. You could take notes on paper, but all your electronics had to be left behind. To be completely honest, I’m happy I…

Twitter3
Twitter today announced that it’s resuming its team-up with Bing to let you read tweets in multiple languages. Twitter translate functionality has waned on and off, most recently re-appearing in Tweetdeck a couple of weeks ago. To activate the functionality, simply go to your account settings and select Show Tweet translations. When looking at a tweet in a language you don’t understand, look for the globe icon located in the tweet. Simply click on the tweet to expand it, and a translation will appear below the original text. Twitter says the translation is available on Twitter.com, Tweetdeck and the Android and iOS apps.
