The Verge: Comcast writes letters for politicians that support its merger with TWC

It’s not exactly news to hear that politicians will vote in favor of, or support the ambitions of, corporations or individuals that have contributed to their campaigns. But it’s pretty disturbing to see that the politicians themselves are letting those corporations write letters to a government entity on their behalf and all they have to do is add a signature. The Verge reports that Comcast has been ghost writing letters to the FCC that overwhelmingly support its merger with Time Warner Cable. In one instance, Roswell, Georgia mayor, Jere Wood only added a signature and sign off line to a letter…

Uber has long been experimenting with ways to use its drivers to be more than a taxi company. UberEssentials, an on-demand delivery service, was one of the more intriguing ideas to come out of the company, but that service has been quietly shut down for now. @Drunkmuppet uberESSENTIALS will no longer be available. We're already taking the learnings and using them towards our next experiment! — Uber DC (@Uber_DC) January 22, 2015 It’s surprising to see UberEssentials close down just a month after the company extended the project. It began as a limited trial called Corner Store last summer, serving the Washington DC…

After acquiring TestFlight maker Burstly last year and subsequently releasing a new iTunes Connect-based beta testing service and a native app on iOS, Apple will be shutting down the old version of TestFlight on TestFlightApp.com. TestFlight sent out an email today, indicating that the website will close in exactly one month on February 26. @MartinSFP just received the email from testflight pic.twitter.com/SwudvaAdpR — Roman Khafizianov (@requilence) January 26, 2015 Note that apps on the older version will not be ported to the new TestFlight; developers must set up their apps from scratch in iTunes Connect. TestFlightApp.com and Apple’s TestFlight previously ran as separate…

Sheriffs have accused Google’s Waze traffic app of being a stalking app and called for alerts that indicate when police are nearby to be switched off, reports The Guardian. In 2013, Google acquired Waze, which combines GPS navigation with a social community, for $966 million. It offers free real-time traffic guidance and warnings about issues including congestion, car accidents, speed traps, traffic cameras, construction work, potholes and unsafe weather. The complaints against Waze were triggered by Sergio Kopelev, a reserve deputy sheriff in Southern California, who believes the user-submitted reports about officers’ locations make it a danger to police. Kopelev says he had…

Twitterfic’s iOS app recieved an update today, and a couple of new features are now in tow. Most usefully, you can finally upload multiple images – up to four at once. Similarly, you can now view up to four images attached to a tweet on your timeline. You can also now watch videos straight in your stream from sources like Vine, Instagram and GIFs. There are a number of improvements to previously available features too. Instagram photos now open in the in-app viewer, following a media link will open up the source page and you can now open a timeline of a user’s mentions by…
