It seemed like too complex a project to simply produce and set aside — even though it was finished, and had succeeded in generating plenty of buzz. Last spring, UK artist Benjamin Redford undertook to create a crowdsourced Web drawing by asking Kickstarter participants to reserve small cubes of space on the canvas for $1 each. Participants could ask the artist to draw whatever they wanted and could reserve any number of cubes. Internetopia was the final result, based on requests from all over the world over a 35-day period. Hundreds of people suggested subjects for Redford to draw, and a dramatic hand-crafted rendition of…

Xiaomi launches 3G Mi 4 smartphone in India for $325

Half a year after its launch in China, smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is bringing the Mi 4 to India. The device will go on sale in February through online retailer Flipkart at $325 (Rs. 20,000). The Mi 4 has a powerful Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5 GHz processor with 3GB RAM and is paired with an Adreno 330 GPU, making for snappy performance to rival the OnePlus One and Samsung Galaxy S5. The Basis Peak fitness tracker gets an update, now displays notifications from your phone

Basis has updated its Peak fitness tracker’s firmware for the first time this year to enable the wearable to display notifications from your iOS or Android smartphone. Firmware version 1.8.15 brings text, call and other smartphone notifications to the Peak, which vibrates when it receives new alerts. Notifications are visible for five minutes before they disappear. Users can also quiet the Peak by switching to Do Not Disturb mode on the device. Notifications are turned off by default and have to be activated before you can see them.
