Ryan Holiday is the bestselling author of The Obstacle Is The Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials Into Triumphs and two other books. He is an editor-at-large for the New York Observer and his monthly reading recommendations are found here.  Writing a book can be a long, hard slog. The “miserable” parts of the experience have been documented over and over again. Or just ask any author on a book deadline — or let the thousand-yard stare speak for itself. After all, not all of us can have an entire corporation behind them like James Patterson does to churn…

A French quadcopter fan has turned his self-built drone into the Millennium Falcon. The wannabe Han Solo, who goes by the name Olivier-FR on Reddit , created the skin for his flyer with $11 (€10) of foam and added $13 (€12) worth LED lights to the front and rear. Olivier’s drone is usually pretty speedy – he says it can do 90kph horizontal speed – but slows down to 30kph when its wearing its Millennium Falcon finery. Helpfully, he’s shared both the plans to build the drone itself and the Millennium Falcon frame. His next project is a TIE Fighter. ➤Radio-Controlled Millenium…

0203_how
The Internet has become the go-to place for how to do just about anything. Now Google is making it a bit easier to surface those how-tos with the new .How domain. The new domain is available now via the Google Registry for anyone that has knowledge they want to share with the world. The idea is that by putting these educational sites under a single domain, users will be able to quickly find sites that cater to their needs. If you’re a business or individual that’s interested in the new domain, maybe: you might want to register your domain before someone…

Experimental YouTube feature lets you choose from multiple camera angles

YouTube is today rolling out a new experimental feature that could actually improve the way you stream content online: multiple camera angles. When enabled, you can select the camera angle you want from a series of thumbnails on the right side of the video. There’s currently only one stream for which the feature works for, however: a live performance by indie artist Madilyn Bailey from this year’s YouTube Music Night event. The tool shows up under a special “Choose Your View” tab on Bailey’s channel. Although YouTube isn’t the first to try something of the sort – online sports networks such as MLB.tv have implemented…

Alibaba is testing drone delivery in China, beating Amazon to the punch

Although Amazon was first to propose drone delivery tests, Alibaba, China’s biggest retailer, beat the company to the punch. Tech in Asia reports the trial will last three days, limited to specific areas within a one-hour radius from its distribution centers.  The deliveries are being run by Alibaba’s Taobao division, and involve about 450 customers. To limit the weight of packages, the company is delivering 340g (12oz) boxes of ginger tea. You can check out Alibaba’s promo video for the deliveries here. Of course, a full scale roll out is a different matter entirely. Hopefully, Chinese people in the delivery zones will be more receptive to the…
