VirginMediaFeat
Virgin Media will spend around £3 billion on increasing the footprint of its broadband network in the UK and increasing the overall speeds for users. Announced today, the plan will see Virgin’s 152Mbps service extended to areas not within its reach – consumers and small businesses are being encouraged to register demand for services at virginmedia.com/cablemystreet and the rollout will then proceed in the areas of most demand, “with a focus on areas closest to Virgin Media’s existing network,” the company said. In addition to improving broadband access for residents and businesses, Virgin Media said the expansion would create 6,000 direct new…

Sony wearable
Sony announced last year that it was working on a wearable device you could attach to your glasses for a Google Glass-style heads-up display of notifications, directions, fitness stats and more. The company showed off the SmartEyeglass Attach at this year’s CES, and now has a demo that lets you see what it’s like when you use it. The Single-Lens Display Module has a processor and sensors that allow it to calculate and display certain stats on its own. It also packs a connectivity module that lets it pair with a smartphone to relay notifications and other content on the…

Pinterest

Pinterest has begun removing affiliate links, redirects and trackers on pins from today, reports VentureBeat. The move won’t visibly affect users’ posts on the social network, but the tracking links will be stripped. This means that bloggers who previously earned a percentage of sales when shoppers clicked through to products they shared on Pinterest will no receive a cut from those stores. The company suggested that bloggers seek out other methods to make money via its network: “participate in paid social media marketing involving Pinterest, be paid to curate a board or be paid to create original content for a…

Facebook updates its Groups app on iOS with new admin abilities

Facebook has updated its Groups app on iOS today. Version 7 allows group admins to pin posts and view the number of posts and requests they need to review. In addition, group members can now add images in comments. The update comes just a couple of days after Facebook began rolling out a new feature to allow users to sell items more easily in groups. It seems likely that the changes in version 7 are meant to bolster that effort. ➤ Facebook Groups [iOS/Android]
