"The international coalition launched its war on Gaddafi on Purim. Gadaffy says this is more proof that Al-Qaida is behind this colonialist, zionist crusade. I say that's more proof Khadafi's had his head in the hot desert sand for too long." ~ Yasha Harari

You can now use Foursquare without creating an account

Foursquare_Android_New
Foursquare is trying to lure in more users; people new to the platform can now try out the app without creating an account. It’s a small but significant usability shift; when I first started using Yelp, I didn’t bother to create an account until I became interested in writing reviews. Likewise, users searching Google for restaurant reviews don’t have to waste time on a sign-up. Those who care about signing up will do so on their own time. If the company simply wants more people to use its platforms instead of competitors, it makes sense to remove any friction. Granted,…

If you’re one of the relatively few Google Glass owners in the world and want a way to live stream exactly what you’re seeing at any given moment, then Streye Live from the Spanish development team Droiders is probably worth checking out. Available to download from today, the Streye Live app for Glass allows you to start broadcasting to YouTube’s Live Events section in a single tap, or using the “OK, Glass, start broadcasting” voice command. The company said it would work for anyone using the current Explorer edition of Glass. The team said the announcement is really a teaser ahead of…

Google launches a beta channel for Android WebView on Lollipop

Feb13

Android apps use a technology called WebView to show HTML content without forcing you to open a browser; think of all those times an app loads a mini-window to ask for permission to link to your Facebook or Twitter account. In Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google lets users update WebView separately from the core OS. As of today, developers can access a new beta channel to try the newest versions of WebView and provide feedback. Updates to WebView bring bug fixes, new APIs and updates to the Chromium engine. If you use WebView for your app, signing up for the beta channel can…

If you’ve ever been curious about Apple’s alternative to Office Online and Google Docs, but don’t own an Apple product, you may be in luck. The company is now allowing anyone to sign up for a beta version of iWork for iCloud – no Apple device required. Apple’s beta.icloud.com site now shows a top banner suggesting anyone can sign up to use Pages, Numbers and Keynote for iCloud. You simply need to go through a sign up process to create your new Apple ID, and you’re set. You even get an entire 1GB of iCloud storage too. In the past, simply…

Music discovery app Shazam today received an update for Windows Phone, finally adding classic features like Lyrics and Trending to the mix. Today’s update will now let Windows Phone users browse what people are Shazaming, songs by musical genre and popular songs globally and locally. Users can also access new Lyrics and Videos pages to learn more about the content they’ve just Shazamed. Lastly, they can check out the Future Hits page to see 10 songs currently on the rise. Not included in the update? The automatic Spotify playlist maker iOS received late last year. Considering there’s still no Rdio integration, we’re not…
