Quasi-anonymous posting service Yik Yak is trying to make it easier to report abusive posts and let users change their minds while voting. Today’s update adds options when flagging a post. The four choices are now: “Offensive content,” “This post targets someone,” “Spam” and “Other.” Previously, reporting a post just asked if the post was breaking one of Yik Yak’s rules. By adding context, it could help the company make a quicker decision if a post should be pulled from the system. Yik Yak quickly became home to online bullying thanks to its localized posts and anonymous nature. The company has been…

Great interface design is quickly becoming a priority as companies everywhere start realizing that it’s paramount to their succeeding in the crowded online space. Then why, despite its importance, has there been such a gap in the UX design tools space? Atomic, a startup team of ten based in Wellington, New Zealand, thinks it has the tool that finally fills the gap that will allow product designers to create great experiences for the Web and mobile devices. It’s in private beta right now, but the team has given us a first look at what it’s building. Remember all the way back in 2013…

Edward Snowden is back at it with more claims about government security operations. According to documents he provided to The Intercept, American and British spies hacked into Gemalto, the largest SIM card manufacturer in the world, to steal encryption keys for its cards. The hack was performed by a team from the NSA and its British counterpart, the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). Information about the breach was detailed in a 2010 GCHQ document. A joint unit dubbed the Mobile Handset Exploitation Team, never previous disclosed, was formed in April 2010. Gemalto creates SIM cards for AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint and other…

At its first mobile developer conference in San Francisco, Yahoo introduced its own mobile developer suite that ties together Flurry and Yahoo features. The new mobile suite contains five products in a single suite: Flurry Analytics and Explorer with a new interface and the capability quickly parse that data via the dashboard. Explorer is an ad-hoc search query tool to see event data. Flurry Pulse lets developers use the Flurry SDK to share app data with partners without requiring additional code. According to Yahoo all you need to do is push a button. A developer preview is available now. Yahoo App…

Posted In: Around the Web, Insider

Imgur is one of the most prominent hosts on the Web for funny images and GIFs, yet it has so far thrived largely as a place for Reddit users to share their images. The site now wants to make its content easier to browse through directly. Starting today, you can sort images through a variety of ‘Topics,’ including Funny, Awesome, Aww, The More You Know, Storytime, Current Events and Design & Art. Imgur says it will update the list of topics as it analyzes more user data. Although Imgur previously featured tags to help users sort through the plethora of images, broader…
