YouTube for kids is launching on February 23

USA Today says that YouTube plans to launch a new app called YouTube kids on February 23. It was reported as early as March last year, but Google confirmed it was working on such an app in December. The app, which will be free, will run on Android devices only at launch. According to USA Today, the app will be separate to the main YouTube service and features a homescreen with eight options made up of choices from kids TV shows and other popular recommendations. 23andMe has passed a big regulatory hurdle to getting back on the market

Back in 2013, the FDA asked 23andMe to stop selling DNA-testing kits as it was offering services that could cause customers to undergo inappropriate treatments due to results shown by the service. Today, 23andMe has cleared a big hurdle in getting its service back in the US; the FDA approved the company’s Bloom syndrome carrier status report. The approval means that 23andMe is allowed to market the genetic test directly to consumers and helps pave the way for other reports to be performed in the future. Buzzfeed acquires GoPop because GIFs

While Buzzfeed does more than just GIFs (really, they do some great national coverage), you’d be hard pressed to find someone that hasn’t fallen into a Buzzfeed hole of awesome cat and corgi GIFs. So it’s not that big of a surprise that visual communications app maker, GoPop, announced today that it was being acquired by the publication and that the team would be working on experimental Buzzfeed apps. Lenovo posts Superfish removal instructions, fails to acknowledge severity of problem

After reporting Lenovo was installing adware on user’s computers that contained a worrying security hole yesterday, the company has today posted detailed information on how to remove the software. The company has provided a PDF that walks users through uninstalling the Superfish software itself, as well as how to remove the security certificate.
