GoogleNEW
Google has merged its two European regional operations, as it attempts to deal with challenges from regulators. The HQ will remain in Dublin and the changes aren’t expected to result in job losses. The company is combining its northern and western European division with the unit that covers eastern and southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa to form one organization. The new setup will be led by Matt Brittin, the former head of Google’s northern and western Europe operations. Carlo D’Asaro Biondo, who had been in charge of southern and eastern Europe, is moving to lead commercial partnerships. Google…

vurb
Organizing friends to go out to the movies or dinner can be a pain; you jump between apps and websites as you try to figure out which restaurant to eat at, which movie to see, at what theatre, all the while trying to organize it over texts. Vurb, a new iOS app, aims to simplify the way you search by contextualizing results and orienting them around cards, which can be easily shared with others. In essence, Vurb wants to kill those lists of links you’re used to seeing in traditional search engines and stop you jumping between apps to get simple tasks…

Circa’s time saving news breaks free from the app, now on the Web too

Circa, the news service for iOS and Android that breaks down news stories into bite-sized chunks, has today launched a website to go with its mobile apps. The service, which has its own in-house news team, previously exclusively surfaced its bite-sized news via the mobile apps and allowed readers to subscribe to stories they’re interested in. Today’s website launch means that the news is more widely accessible, particularly for people who might not be on a mobile device all day long. While mobile is a great place to consume news, it’s not always the right one and the company wanted to be available…

Google’s announced that it’s starting a pilot to put sponsored search results into the Google Play store. Initially the spots will be limited to advertisers who are already running search ads for their apps and will only show up for a selected set of users. As with Google’s normal search ads, advertisers will be able to bid for particular queries like “coupon apps” or “travel apps”. The company says it plans to expand the program in the coming months based on the results of the initial tests and user feedback. Paid search results will be flagged on Google Play with a small…

AppleMaps
In the past week Apple Maps has added nine new cities to the 3D Flyover feature, partnered with GasBuddy and GreatSchools in the US and added some quirky features to London’s 3D flyover views that include Big Ben showing the real time and the London Eye rotating. The nine new cities covered by the 3D feature are: Edinburgh, Scotland; Cáceres, Spain; Venice, Italy; Linz, Austria; Rennes, France; Guadalajara, Mexico; and Baton Rouge and Boise in the US. The new partnerships with GasBuddy and GreatSchools in the US make it likely that Apple Maps users will soon be able to see local gas prices and school…
