Twitter CEO Dick Costolo knows that the service has a problem with harassment. Today it announced that it was rolling out new policies and procedures to help combat the horrible behavior that sometimes mars the Twitter experience. These updates include allowing bystanders report abuse, an update to its in-product reporting feature and building a larger staff to handle the uptick in abusive reports. “Overall, we now review five times as many user reports as we did previously, and we have tripled the size of the support team focused on handling abuse reports,” said Twitter VP of user services, Tina Bhatnagar in a…

Twenty20 emerges from beta with a fresh take on stock photography

Had it with artificial, old-fashioned, stagey royalty-free images that literally scream, stock photo? An alternative kind of agency, which uses personal mobile photos from a range of enthusiasts and professionals, today launched out of beta promising to lend a more natural and less overtly slick look to marketing, advertising and editorial content. Twenty20, a crowdsourced commercial image catalog, specifically targets the mobile, Instagram-centric, social networking sensibility of contemporary companies and encourages the use of personal mobile photography for visual campaigns. But that’s not to say Twenty20 ignores the pros: The site’s mobile photographers offer a range of professional experience spanning pros, amateurs and even celebrities like skateboarder Tony…

iCloud
A couple of weeks ago, we noticed Apple’s beta iCloud site was allowing anyone to sign up for the company’s productivity suite on the Web – no Apple device required. If you tried to sign up via the standard iCloud site, however, you’d be presented with an error. No longer: anyone can sign up for access to Pages, Numbers and Keynotes, officially. As with before, you simply need to follow the prompt to create an Apple ID if you don’t already have one and follow the steps. If you already have an account but don’t own an Apple device, you’ll be…

Big changes to Google’s search algorithms are coming: beginning April 21, the company will increase the ranking of sites that are mobile-friendly and surface app results much higher. The company says that the change will have a “significant impact” on all mobile searches in all languages worldwide, but as a result Google says that users will find higher quality results. Along with this change, Google will start to use more information from indexed apps as a factor when ranking search results for users that are signed-in and have the app installed. These changes are great news for mobile users as it…
