There’s a Google tool for just about everything you can think of, so why not car insurance? Google Compare for car insurance currently lets you view listings from 14 sponsored insurers with rate information. Once users see a rate they like, they can sign up for a policy online or call an agent with the provided number. If you choose to call, your phone number is masked with Google Voice to keep your privacy. It’s currently only active in California, but will roll out to more states soon. Google will also be adding more features over time, like reviews and ratings. Google…

Annoyed by those promoted tweets on your Twitter feed? Hopefully, Twitter will make these ads more relevant to you in the near future. Today, the company released Partner Audience, a new ad-targeting feature to let publishers select intended demographics such as “cereal buyers” and “pet care buyers.” The name “Partner Audience” comes from Twitter’s collaboration with analytics companies Axciom and Datalogix. The two businesses will provide Twitter with more than 1,000 partner audiences brands can choose to target, along with the number of users under such categories. How these analytics company know your personal shopping habits is another story, but for now,…

If you manage a Facebook Page, don’t be surprised if you see a small dip in your number of “likes” in the coming weeks. According to a blog post, the company is now purging likes from closed accounts, including memorialized and deactivated ones. The company notes the changes should help businesses glean more accurate insights from their audience data, as well as  make it easier to find similar audiences to their followers using lookalike tools. It also notes that comments and and post likes from deactivated accounts are already weeded out. On the other hand, if a deactivated account that previously…

The Gmail app got a whole lot friendlier with iOS 8 today. The updated app now supports notification replies and archiving of messages from the lock screen, has an Open In extension and a new attachment viewer. The Open In extension lets users send media from any other app via Gmail. Got a cool photo in Camera+? Open the share sheet and select Gmail to compose an email with that image attached. The app also has an updated attachment viewer so you can open received files in any other app. ➤ Gmail [iOS]

Jolla’s first smartphone was a runaway success for the Finnish company founded by ex-Nokia employees in 2011, so at the end of last year, it decided to capitalize on that momentum and announced its first tablet. The Jolla Tablet, which runs the same custom SailfishOS as the smartphone, hasn’t gone on sale yet, but it will next month in a number of markets. I spent a little time taking a poke around the device at MWC 2015 this week to see what it had to offer. Design and hardware The Jolla Tablet might only cost $249, but it’s not skimping too much on…
