Aperture_RDClimber_PF_Open_PRINT
As Apple moves its new Photos app replacement for iPhoto and Aperture squarely into the spotlight, it is now informing its customers that the sunset is quickly approaching for Aperture, its pro-level photo management package. Apple Insider reports that Aperture users were notified today that the software would soon be removed from the Mac App Store. Apple instead invited everyone to check out Photos, available now as part of Apple’s OS X 10.10.3 open beta. Evidently, only customers who initially purchased Aperture from the Store actually received Apple’s note entitled, Aperture News.  Hello, Photos Photos was introduced in June as an overall replacement for both…

Xero, the young accounting company that recently took $111 million in investment to take on Intuit in the US, has today announced its first iPad app. The new app allows you to get your accounting done from your tablet; you can reconcile your accounts, view invoices, upload files or create expense claims right from the app. Xero said that even before it released these iPad specific views, 29 percent of iOS users were using the app on an iPad, so it decided to build an app that better serves them. ➤ Xero for iPad [Xero Blog] Full disclosure: I previously…

Hands-on with the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua: Unassuming mid-range phone with high-end features

Sony announced the Xperia M4 Aqua at Mobile World Congress this week alongside the new Z4 tablet. It isn’t quite the flagship that seemed due, but it is certainly at the higher end of the mid-range scale. I got to spend some time trying it out to see how it performed. Looking at the M4 Aqua first, you could easily mistake it for the more high-end Xperia Z3. It is only when you hold the phone and get a closer look that you start to notice the differences. Instead of Sony’s trademark industrial style and metal frame, the M4 has…

Microsoft and Google find common ground to build Angular 2

angularjs
If you had told me Microsoft and Google would collaborate on a major JavaScript framework a year ago, I wouldn’t have believed you, but today the company announced the unlikely pairing. At ng-conf in Salt Lake City, the Angular team announced that it’s been working closely with Microsoft’s TypeScript team to build Angular 2 and converge the TypeScript and AtScript languages. TypeScript is a superset of JavaScript that offers additional features but compiles back into plain JavaScript. Angular is one of the most popular JavaScript frameworks, but version two has been met with disappointment from developers since it offers no migration…

Google Drive for Android now lets you drag-and-drop to organize your files

Google Drive is getting several useful new features on Android. Most usefully, you can now rearrange files by dragging and dropping. Just long press on a file to select it (you can select multiple files too), and then just drag it to where you want it to be. You can also now star or pin a group of files when multiple ones are selected. Searching for files is a bit more powerful too; you can now jump to a file’s location from the details pane. This could help you access related documents if you’re looking for a full set from a…
