Quotable

"The network news shows dedicated twenty times more coverage to Tiger Woods' affairs than they did to the Climategate scandal. They figure now that the cat is out of the bag, it's less interesting to nail cagey lying scientists with punchlines than it is to cage the big cat lying down with his club and females. The big bro.ad.cast media can't see the climate change forrest for the Woods." ~ Laughzilla

mixfader

Budding bedroom DJs and wannabe DMC finalists will be getting a new a new tool to add to their arsenal later this year in the form of a wireless crossfader called Mixfader. Launched today by DJIT – the company behind the popular DJ app Edjing – the Mixfader does as you might expect: it let’s you control playback between virtual decks when used in conjunction with an app. While any self-respecting DJ app will give you a virtual crossfader, the Mixfader has been designed specifically to let ‘turntablists’ make the precision movements required to carry off more intricate scratches or mixes. Connecting via Bluetooth,…

magic the gathering
It started back in 2011 when Gizmodo ran a column in which one of its female interns recounts her date with a Magic: The Gathering pro gamer. Before then, it seemed like a game quietly played by super fans and little kids. After the article appeared, everyone from Joseph Gordon Levitt and Seth Rogen to MMA Fighter Josh Barnett (who apparently plays before a fight) and NFL punter Chris Kluwe are now known to frequent the game, putting Magic back on the millennial map despite its birth in 1993. Since then, the game has gained quite the momentum. There are now mobile and Web versions of the game, and a…

HBO_NOW
While some cable companies are none to happy with the idea of HBO separating its content into its own separately-available HBO Now service, there’s no denying they’ll have to embrace it eventually. That’s starting today with Cablevision, now that it’s announced an agreement with HBO to offer HBO Now to Optimum Online customers. Optimum is the first cable provider to partner with HBO for the service. No price details were announced, but Cablevision says it will provide those details and other news in the coming weeks. The service will cost $14.99 a month on Apple TV, and traditional HBO costs an $14.95 for…

Windows10_Continuum-1C
Microsoft is slowly releasing tidbits about the next big release of Windows 10 and today it shared details on how it’s worked to free up more storage space on computers running the OS. In a blog post today, the company detailed a new compression algorithm that saves 1.5GB of storage on 32-bit machines and 2.6GB of storage on 64-bit machines. According to the company, Windows uses smart compression techniques to avoid a performance hit on your machine. When upgrading to Windows 10, the computer assesses its own performance and determines what compression factor to use. On top of that, Microsoft has improved…
