Deezer’s ‘Elite’ high-quality music streaming service is now available to users around the world following a brief US-only stint at the end of 2014. First launched in September, the 35 million FLAC track library is now open to users in Latin America, Europe and anywhere else that you can normally access Deezer – it’s still a Sonos hardware-only affair though. The company says the resulting music is five-times the quality of a standard MP3. In the UK, the service will cost £14.99 per month for 12 months, or £120 per year if you choose to pay up-front. There’s also a…

Dot 2
Each week we’re profiling one company that has been selected for Boost – our early-stage startup growth program. Catch up with these companies in person at The Next Web Conference Europe on April 23 & 24. Amazon has extended its Prime Now one-hour delivery service to Baltimore and Miami following limited trials elsewhere in the US. The one-hour delivery service was initially only available to Prime members in Manhattan, but it’s going live for selected zip codes in the two new cities from today. You can check if it is available in your area using the zip code checker on the Prime Now page. The service will operate between 8am and 10pm daily with two-hour delivery being free and one-hour delivery costing $7.99. Hopefully this limited expansion within the US will one day be extended to other countries. ➤ Amazon…

Japanese internet services giant Rakuten announced that it has acquired US-based OverDrive, an ebook and audiobook marketplace, for $410 million in cash. OverDrive’s digital distribution platform lets users borrow more than 2.5 million ebooks and audiobooks from over 30,000 local libraries. The move will likely help Rakuten’s ebook business expand; it acquired Kobo, an ebook reader manufacturer, back in 2011. Rakuten appears to be on a warpath in the digital content industry. It added Wuaki.tv, a video streaming service, and Viki, a global TV and video site, to its portfolio in 2012 and 2013 respectively. With its latest acquisition, the…
