Twitter users will soon be able to specify and tag locations pulled from Foursquare’s database thanks to a tie-up between the two companies. The deal gives Twitter access to Foursquare’s full location database, which is a pretty significant repository and widely regarded as one of the most detailed. Coming soon! We’re working with @foursquare so you can tag specific locations in Tweets: https://t.co/MwlLz5Pfvqpic.twitter.com/jATzXvbuV6 — Twitter (@twitter) March 23, 2015 Tags for location can be general, or can be a specific business, landmark, or other point of interest. Mobile Twitter users will still have tweets labelled with their precise location in addition…

Samsung and Microsoft settled their Android royalties lawsuit last month and now they’re really getting cozy. In the near future, you’ll find Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype preinstalled on “select Android tablets” from the South Korean manufacturer. The packages will start shipping in the first half of this year. The companies previously announced a deal to give Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge owners 100GB of additional free cloud storage for two years with OneDrive. The third part of the pair’s new comfy relationship will see Samsung offering Office 365 to businesses that buy its Android tablets. ➤ Microsoft And…

platzi student_02
Latin American ed-tech startup Platzi will be on stage at Y Combinator’s Demo Day this Monday. As you may remember, Platzi is the new name of online education platform Mejorando.la — a rebranding aimed at reflecting its global ambitions. Its co-founders may also be familiar figures to TNW readers: both CEO Freddy Vega and COO Christian Van Der Henst have been co-leading several projects which we have covered over the last few years, from their weekly tech podcast to their conferences and online classes. All of these have now been brought under the umbrella of Platzi. While Vega and Van…

How Mint’s founder is taking on a problem Google couldn’t solve

Fountain photo
At SXSW last week I met up with Aaron Patzer, a man best known as co-founder of financial management service Mint. Now he’s back with Fountain, a marketplace for advice, that officially launched earlier this month. Focused initially on the home and garden, Fountain connects US-based iOS users with an expert over live mobile video chat. That sounds to us a lot like Google Helpouts, the platform that was recently slated for closure. However, Patzer believes he has the edge as there’s no need to seek out the right expert for your problem via a directory. Instead, Fountain asks you to…

Datahug announces Sales Closer, a fortune-telling virtual sales assistant

Datahug
Datahug has today announced the introduction of the Datahug Sales Closer – a tool that will guide salespeople to closing deals. The new feature can be integrated into CRM systems and will act as a predictive tool for salespeople. This means that it will be possible to determine the likelihood of closing a deal based on real-time data, as well as tracking the stages of deals that are in progress. Speaking to TNW, Ray Smith, CEO of Datahug, said: Salespeople currently view CRM systems as a data entry burden, rather than a tool that’s there to help them sell. We’re…
