UK regulator wants crypto-derivatives ban to protect ‘ill-suited’ retail investors

The UK‘s Financial Conduct Authority has proposed a ban on cryptocurrency-related investment products to protect retail investors. In an announcement released earlier today, the FCA said that cryptocurrency-based derivatives and exchange traded notes (ETNs) are “ill-suited to retail consumers who cannot reliably assess the value and risks.” “Most consumers cannot reliably value derivatives based on unregulated cryptoassets,” said Christopher Woolard, Executive Director of Strategy & Competition at the FCA. The FCA added the ban would prohibit the “sale, marketing, and distribution” of “all derivatives,” including “contracts for difference (CFDs), options, futures, and ETNs” that relate to an unregulated transferable cryptoasset,…

Android creator Andy Rubin accused of running a ‘sex ring’

Android founder, Andy Rubin, may have left Google long back in 2014, but his departure is beginning to attract more unsavory attention as more information is released. According to documents made public by a California superior court, Rubin left the company after having an “inappropriate relationship” with a subordinate, and allegedly concealed payments about his hefty severance package from his now-estranged wife for several years. The documents were first revealed by Buzzfeed’s Ryan Mac. The allegations detail that Rubin was compensated in secret by Google and its parent company Alphabet following a sexual misconduct complaint. The New York Times revealed…

Girlboss launches its first-ever social network, a ‘LinkedIn’ for women

Jul03

Not only is LinkedIn painfully boring, but it often feels like a sausage party filled with senior level white men. And research backs this up: in 2017, a study by LinkedIn revealed how sexist norms infiltrate the way men and women present themselves on LinkedIn. By analyzing over 141 million profiles in the US, it found women promote themselves and their successes a lot less than men do.  In a bid to give women a better professional platform, Girlboss CEO and Founder Sophia Amoruso launched the company’s first-ever, free social networking site — professional networking 2.0, dubbed as a “LinkedIn…

7 months after Hash Wars, Bitmain’s BTC.com appears to mine Bitcoin SV

Jul03

BTC.com, the flagship mining pool of cryptocurrency firm Bitmain Technologies, appears to have started mining the Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) blockchain once again – a likely controversial move. According to multiple blockchain explorers, BTC.com has mined roughly one percent of BSV blocks over the past 24 hours, and is currently contributing a relatively small hash rate of 4 petahashes per second to the network. Curiously, the rate of BSV blocks signed by BTC.com also seems to be increasing. BTC.com has been noticeably absent from BSV mining since last year’s wasteful Hash Wars, when Bitmain and Roger Ver (Bitcoin ABC) battled gambling figure Calvin Ayre…
