Windows Update for Business helps IT admins quickly distribute updates on their own terms

At its Ignite conference today, Microsoft announced a new platform to provide businesses and IT professionals with more control over how their computers are updated with the fittingly named Windows Update for Business. While currently admins can select which updates will deploy for individual devices, Microsoft company said this often resulted in slow software roll-outs. Businesses were being left out of the newest features and fixes, and developers had to deal with software fragmentation. Windows Update for Business provides alternative features that should, in theory, help mitigate those issues. Administrators can now specify update distribution rings, so that multiple devices…

Microsoft dropped the latest version of its Office 2016 preview today with a significant change: it saves to the company’s OneDrive cloud storage service by default. Office 2016 is still in preview form ahead of final release sometime this year. Microsoft also confirmed that real-time co-authoring is coming to Word 2016 desktop in a future release. Outlook is also getting a big update; attachments will automatically upload to the cloud instead of being attached to the email directly so that you can send larger files much more easily. You can try the latest Office 2016 preview here ahead of its release.…

Emoji, the new language of the internet, is improving the way we communicate online

Remember when everyone was worried that text-speak was killing the English language? At one point high school examiners in some places even began allowing students to write essays with the truncated words because of concerns that those students couldn’t spell. Some are saying that emoji is killing the english language, but I disagree. Emoji have become an extension of the English language — particularly among young people — and have improved the way we converse online significantly. Emoji were invented in Japan by the cellphone networks as a method for sending pictographs between phones. The tiny images were extremely popular inside the country…

Building an Excel Add-in

Hi there!

Only recently I read this quote somewhere: “If you want something done, ask a busy person”. I found two entirely different people as the originator of this quote: Benjamin Franklin and Lucille Ball. I wonder which it is…

Well, turns out I’ve been quite busy as of late. So I decided it was time to dust off some old stuff I prepared to add to my site but never came round to finishing (I must have become less busy when I was almost done 🙂 ).

If you’re about to embark on the journey to create an add-in out of a set of macro’s you have been using for some time now, this article is a nice read as it takes you through most of the steps needed when building an add-in for Excel.

Enjoy!
