Google has just released a new app for iOS that allows you to use Cardboard on iOS devices and is available for download today. The company is also making available a 3rd-party cardboard program that allows other companies to build devices. A new Google Cardboard design fits phones as large as six inches, has a new button that works with all devices (rather than the metal washer found in the previous version) and only takes three steps to assemble. There’s also a new Google Cardboard SDK that will work across both Android and iOS devices so that any phone can be…

Lenka, the black-and-white photo app by photographer Kevin Abosch that has taken the monochrome shooting set by storm, has now released an Android version. The app, months in development after its debut on iOS, now runs on devices running Android 4.1 or later. Developing Lenka on Android was a particular challenge because of the variety of devices running the OS. “When developing Lenka for iOS, we always optimize for the newest iPhone,” Abosch said. “There are thousands of devices running Android version 4.1 or later, which presented a challenge we really enjoyed taking on.” “It was the relentless Android community and literally…

I had to move from my favorite Twitter client Tweetbot to the official iOS app because it wasn’t able to show quoted tweets properly. Now it looks like I might be able to return. It’s two months since Twitter overhauled how quoted tweets work, and it’s now rolling out an API update that will allow other apps to take advantage of the feature. However, as the developers of Tweetium for Windows note, that doesn’t mean your favorite Twitter client will let you use the feature, just that quoted tweets will display properly. ➤ API Payloads to include original quoted Tweet objects [Twitter…

We heard it was coming. Now Google’s Chief Business Officer, Omid Kordestani, has confirmed it: a ‘Buy’ button is on its way to the company’s search results. On stage at the Code Conference, he said: “There’s going to be buy button. It’s going to imminent.” He said the rationale was to reduce “friction” for customers, but there’s another reason he was never likely to mention: Amazon is eating Google’s lunch when it comes to people searching for products. Previous reports suggested that the ‘Buy’ button would be a mobile-only addition, but Kordestani didn’t confirm that. You can expect to hear…

24me has added a year-long weather prediction feature to its smart assistant app for iOS devices. Of course, while the appeal of having a 365-day weather forecast is pretty apparent – it’s good to have an idea of the weather when planning events – bright sunshine is still not guaranteed. 24me pulls this data from a new partnership with WeatherPlanner, which bases long-range forecasts on its own algorithm combined with historical data. As has always been the case with 24me, the Android update that includes this feature will follow along later. ➤ 24me [iOS | Android] Read next: 24me’s smart assistant is now officially available on Android
