As the name suggests, Google’s Play Store is full of fun. We’re giving away a bundle of the best stuff it has to offer — a Nexus 9 tablet, a Chromecast stick and $100 of credit to spend. For the unacquainted, the Nexus 9 is Google’s largest tablet. It has an 8.9-inch IPS screen, with a crystal-clear resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, and a 2.3GHz processor that makes Android move at speed. The Chromecast lets you wirelessly stream media, such as Netflix and YouTube, from your tablet (or other Wi-Fi device) straight to your TV. To make the most…

Jon Hicks, the designer responsible for Skype’s emoji, has joined Opera as the new lead designer for its desktop browser. Hicks has previously produced Spotify’s icons and was the brains behind the current MailChimp logo, as well as working with clients including Mozilla (where he famously created the final Firefox logo), Shopify and JoliCloud. Before joining Opera full-time, he designed the company’s installer illustration: He’ll now be leading the team designing the interaction and visual aesthetics of Opera’s desktop browser for Windows, Mac and Linux. There’s a fun interview with him at the link below. ➤ Jon Hicks, creator of…

Popcorn Buzz
Mobile messaging service Line has launched Popcorn Buzz, a new group call app for Android that lets you talk to up to 200 people simultaneously. If you’ve got a Line account, you simply send out a group call URL via email, text or on social networks and your contacts can join instantly. During the conversation, users can tell who’s speaking by noting the green dots that appear by their avatars.   Line says it’s working to add more features like group video chat and interconnectivity with Line groups. It also plans to release an iPhone version of Popcorn Buzz soon.…

Google wants to get everywhere with Street View and it’s now taken its cameras into the deep. From today, you can see imagery captured in oceans across the world. The announcement is timed to trail World Oceans Day on June 8. It represents the first fruits of a four year collaboration between Google and the XL Catlin Seaview Survey, NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and the Chagos Conservation Trust. The idea is not just to let us gawp at dolphins, but to highlight the damage humans are inflicting on underwater ecosystems. The company says: Home to the majority of life…

adobe-adi
In the run-up to Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, Adobe Digital Index, the company’s marketing arm, has concluded that Apple is currently the dominant player in consumer digital video consumption, and that the trend is likely to continue. In a new report examining Online Video Viewing and Browsing Trends between 2014 and 2015, Adobe declared Apple as a clear winner in major categories of content, including internet-connected, subscription-based pay TV programming, known in the trade as TV Everywhere. The study was based on anonymous and aggregated data gathered by Adobe Marketing Cloud analytics, which tracked more than 500 billion visits to 11,000 sites in the US and…
