Siri has just got a serious upgrade. At WWDC, Apple has unveiled proactive Siri, uniting the voice assistant with services including Spotlight, Calendar and Maps. The ‘proactive’ part is the key: the new Siri won’t just wait for you to ask for something. Instead, it will know when you need to leave for a flight or that you always check your Twitter feed first thing in the morning. One example from the event was that Siri will now offer up the “now playing” menu on your lock screen when you plug in your headphones. The new proactive Siri will be available…

Bringing internet access to developing nations has been Facebook’s intent for Internet.org since it launched the service in Zambia last year. With multiple expansions since then, it might have seemed logical for the company to launch its own satellite to facilitate getting new countries online. However, while perhaps logical, this expansion won’t be happening any time soon, according to The Information. The reports says Facebook’s $1 billion plan has been abandoned in favor of partnering with existing projects or potentially leasing space on other satellites. Again according to the report, the ends couldn’t justify the not inconsiderable means in terms of expenditure. On…

Skype’s automatic voice translation tool is one of those technologies that just makes you feel like you’re in the future, but having to download a separate app to use it is a little inconvenient. That won’t be the case for long, however, as the Skype team today announced that it’s integrating the Translator platform right into the main desktop app for Windows. The team is aiming to begin rolling out translator by the end of this summer. Last month, Skype removed the limited registration requirement so that anyone could try out the technology. The tool can translate voice conversations between…

CRMs battle for the Iron Throne

HEAD-GoT-Business-Apps

This post was brought to you by GetApp, your number one cloud business apps marketplace

Imagine if the world of business apps was the fictional land of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series/HBO mega-hit, Game of Thrones. In this psuedo-world populated by cloud-apps, CRMs (Customer Relationship Management) would definitely rule as the noble houses of Westeros. Not only do CRM apps represent some of the oldest cloud applications in the real SaaS world, but as a collective, they’ve also got some of the most successful and influential products in the industry. And, much like the battle for the Iron Throne, CRM heavy hitters are constantly battling for top spot on lists like GetRank to be the…
